Extended warranty
Hello all,
Needing some advice. I have a 2007 GL450 with 44,000 mile on it. My warranty is expected to run out in one week and I have gotten quotes from my local dealer where I purchased the car. The quotes are below. Would you purchase the extended warranty? I plan on keeping it for another 3 or 4 years an it has seen some issues and been in the shop.

Without knowing the exact coverage provided by this 3rd party warranty I would say that this is very expensive for a 3rd party warranty firm especially with a $200 deductible). These prices are closer to an extension of warranty direct from MB. Ask the dealer for a quote from MB (it is negotiable and can be bought from any MB dealer).
I have used both Mercury Insurance and JM&A (Fidlelity) with very good results. Last year a 5 yr up to 100,000 miles (had 48,000 at the time) from JM & A with $100 deductible cost approx. $3150 from the MB dealer.
You need to shop around and make sure you get an exclusionary policy. In some cases if you are past your MB warranty the 3rd party co. will require an inspection. Find out from your service advisor what 3rd party companies they have a good relationship with. You don't have to buy the warranty from your MB dealer. For the number of years you are going to keep your car and the miles you will have, I would recommend an extended warranty as the cost of repairs for a few small items can add up fast if you are having the dealer do the servicing. Peace of mind that most (but certainly not all - read the fine print of the contract) of the major service $ will be covered for 4 or 5years has a huge value in your enjoyment of the car with few worries.

I have a Easycare warranty on my 07 GL. I have 75,000 miles on mine and the Comand unit just went out. The cost was $2600 to repair, my policy covered all but my $200 deductible.
If you get one, make sure it covers electronics since this is often not covered.
I agree the cost is high. I got a 4 year/100,000 warranty at purchase time for what I remember was $2500.
