GL550
Command DVD

I just picked up a 2008 GL550. I had no idea the Command DVD console was so old. Does anyone know if there is any way to buy a newer (2009 thru 2011) Command console and replace the existing one?

Get a Garmin or Tom-Tom it's worth avoiding the frustration.

I have heard that it can be done, but have not done it or seen it myself. It requires the newer unit (found on ebay for about $1K) and some sort of amplifier. I do not think that it is a simple plug and play and would likely cost upwards of $1500 by the time you get it working.

I came from a Tahoe with a touchscreen nav that was super easy so I was less than impressed with the comand. But, after spending more time with it it has grown on me and I've found it to be very effective. I don't think it's as user friendly as the Tahoe but the ability to access the system while the vehicle is moving is a big plus. I was originally looking to upgrade mine but once I started using it, I found that it functioned just fine and the effort to upgrade it did not seem worth it.

It's way beyond PnP, there's lots that changed when they put the "new" (at least to the GL it was new) COMAND in. I've looked in to it numerous times. Between the GL's and my wife's '04 RX330 (which had no BlueTooth until I put a Parrot unit in it), I seem to pick cars with the most difficult head units to change!
