GL Class (X164) 2007-2012: GL320CDI, GL420CDI, GL450, GL550

To wait or not to wait, that is a question

Hi, All,
I need your input here.
I am in the market of a GL450, now I have following 2 options here, or I can wait till July or August.
My question is: Will MB have a promotion in July/August for GL class? I know MB usually has big discount during that time for E or C class, not sure what they will do for SUV. Anybody knows in last several years during July/August, does MB have any promotion such as $10k off MSRP for previous-year model for GL class?

If answer is yes, then I will wait. If answer is no, would you please comment following 2 options?
1) 2011 pre-owned with MSRP (if new) $71400, dealer offered me $62.5k, this one has 950 miles
2) 2010 CPO one with MSRP (if new) $66500, dealer offered me $57k, this one has 3000 miles.

Which deal is better? or None? How much should be my bottom line?

I don't think that's a particularly good deal. I had no trouble getting 10.5% off an ordered GL350 (plus the $3K USAA rebate!), so 10.5% off a $71400 MSRP is $63903. Which means they're discounting the used car with 1000 miles by $1400.

That's not enough, IMHO.

I've seen similar comments on 10-11 % off msrp for GLK as well as GL's, so is this region specific or only certain models. Meaning do people get the same on the ML's off?

I believe 10.5% off means you got below invoice and were cutting into the dealer holdback. And should have been like 2k less than the USAA pricing at least for my zip code (not the USAA incentive).

Is this right? I know my local dealer is pushing USAA, that I try to get eligible for the 3k incentive but also mentioned the USAA car buying service pricing that does not equate to 10-11% off msrp. I have more hoops to jump through to be eligible for the USAA incentive.

I inquired only about GLs, but it was implied that I could have 10.5% off anything.

Yeah, my price was WELL below the USAA pricing (which was $70,009, a claimed $2100 below invoice). It's not quite apples-apples, since USAA's pricing form couldn't accommodate about $500 in special order ADSII that I wanted, but my price including that $500 ended up being $69076 on an $77180 sticker. Then they took the $3K USAA off that, too.

I'd jump through the hoops. That $3K is off the best negotiated price. It's basically free money.

They usually have the normal USA discount then they also have about 4 discounts per dealer every month for 4 customers.

End of August has always worked well for me in the past. I bought my last three MBs at the end of August. You should be able to get 8-10% off of MSRP on a brand new GL without too much trouble. Be willing to walk away if you don't get what you want. There are plenty of dealers out there who want your business; atleast that's the case here in SoCal. Happy hunting!
btw, USAA is a bank that caters to military folks. They have an auto buying service with additional special incentives for MB and GM vehicles.
