Extended Warranty

Does anyone know where to get extended warranty outside the MB dealers? Their prices are very high.

I am taking delivery of my GL tomorrow. I was qouted $5100 for 3 year/upto 100,000 mile extension beyond factory warrantyfrom MBUSA, and $2975 for the same through 3rd party(Premier Essential VSC, delaer recomended).
MBUSA: Refundable, transferable per dealer, and negotiable per previous posts on this forum. No penality within 30 days, but 15% surcharge beyond that.
Premier Dealer Services Inc, Premier Essential Vehicle Service Contract, an Exclusionary contract (items that are not covered are clearly listed), no deductable at the same dealer, and $100 deductable per visit at other dealers. No surcharge within 5000 miles, but cost adjusted every 5000 mile increment beyond that.
Hope this helps, and appreciate any input from other forum members about the Premier delaer services plan. I plan to call few MB dealers and if I can bargain it down to less than $4000, I will seriously consider the MB one.
Any thoughts on Prepaid maintanence for GL 350?

Thanks for you input. on the prepaid maint, I don't recommend them. I typically skip every other service except for the oil change. Good luck w/ the new car. They are great cars.

GL 450
Just purchased my first Merc GL 450. I bought a certified preowned 2008 with 36,000miles. Original factory warranty is good for one year and the being a certified vehicle gives me a additional year of warranty. So my warranty if covered until 2013 or 100,000 miles. In addition to that they offered a extended warranty and I don't know if it is necessary?

Thanks for any info

Negotiate. I got the MB 3 year extension for ~$2300. $5100 is highway robbery. Based on my repair history after 9 months, I wouldn't want to own a GL out of warranty.

EWT, Yow would be my saviour if you can tell me where and how long back did you purchase your 3 year extension?. I can try calling that dealer as MB warranty can be purchased anywhere.

Just bought 2 year CPO extended warrranty. This is on top of the 1 year CPO warrany that came with the truck so three more years of warranty. Cost was $2595 and well worth it for the piece of mind.

I bought a 7year/100,000 mile warranty on my 550 after 34 months of ownership which expires in 2017 and 119,000 miles. The kicker is cost. Car is my business vehicle so it was partially tax deductible.

I went back and looked at my paperwork and this is actually the same thing I got for a little less. On the CPO cars, you get one year free, and you pay for an additional two years, so comparing that warranty to a three year extension on a new vehicle isn't an apples to oranges comparison. I got mine from MB of Walnut Creek in California.

Hi guys.

I can get you info and prices on extended warranties. All I need is your VIN# and current odometer reading.

I only deal with two highly rated companies; Fidelity and NAC (National Auto Care). Indepently ranked #1 and #7 respectively for claims-paying reputation out of about 200 warranty companies.

Fidelity is very strong, but typically only cost-effective for lower mile cars that have some factory warranty remaining. NAC is great too, and better priced for higher mile or out-of-warranty cars.

I have about 4000 people under various plans and companies. I see a lot of GL claims, and I would not want to own one without a warranty either. Between general MB stuff, airmatic, COMAND, seals/gaskets, and other items, they can get very very expensive.

If you want my general opinion on companies, plans, or prices, I'm happy to provide that too. I am a sponsor on many boards like Benzworld, Audiworld, Quattroworld, M5Board, etc and I can provide hundreds and hundreds of references. Working on getting set up as a sponsor here too.

Thanks!

2010 GL 350 Bluetec
Here's is another data point. I bought the additional 3 year, 100,000 total mile additional warranty through MB last June 2010 for $4486.50. The vehicle was a 2010 Bluetec with P2 and a few other options. I believe we started negotiating around $5k. Since I planned on keeping the vehicle from the start I thought the extended warranty was a necessity.
