New 07 GL450 owner!!!

Hello everyone,

My husband and I have 2 kids and just a few days ago became owners of a 2007 GL450 , with 38k miles on it. It is white, with tan leather and premium package. The ride has been an absolute pleasure!!!! Would like to see how you all like yours and anything we need to pay specific attention to? Thanks!

Thanks! It looks and drives awesome. It is CPO, and the included warranty is 12 months/36k miles from date of purchase. Additional warranty is 7yrs/100k but costs $6,400. I didn't add it yet, but the guy said I have 30 days to add it. Would you recommend adding it?

I have had my 07 for 4 yrs and 70K miles. No major repairs .... with the mileage yours has, IF you buy the warranty what your are really buying is 3 more years of coverage since its highly unlikely you will hit 100K miles. It is probably highly unlikely that you will have any breakdown that is going to cost $6400! Put the money away.... it's there if you need it. If not, then at the end of 3yrs you still have your $6400 or whatever is left of that if you DO have a repair. Like I said .... I have 70k on mine and no repairs of that magnitude! Is there a history of what warranty work may have been done on yours?

Thanks! I was thinking along those same lines. I do have a question about the parking brake. When I park the vehicle, put it in park, then put the parking brake on...the vehicle rolls a tad bit, like the parking brake is stretched or something. Is this normal? Should I have it adjusted? And, should I even use the parking brake on flat surfaces?

Oh and yeah, per carfax, the vehicle was always serviced at the Mercedes dealer. I will request records too just for my keepsake. It is a one owner and looks very well kept.

After you put the vehicle in park and THEN apply the parking brake.... the vehicle really shouldn't move...... it may be that the brake does, in fact, need to be adjusted.

Thanks, I will test it out a few more times...and if it keeps doing that, I will have service check it out.

I bought a 7yr/100,000 mile warranty but it started the day I purchased so it amounted to extending warranty to 119,900 miles and until 2017.

Yeah, I believe that's what they offered us as well. I do want to find out what exactly they cover...One year is included, but for peace of mind, warranty is a good thing. Thanks.

Congrats on your purchase. I picked up an '09 GL320 this weekend as well and couldn't be happier. I built the 2 year extended warranty into my offer. It covers me for 2 years on top of the 1 year CPO extension and whatever is left from the original warranty. It also goes up to 135,000 miles which is nice. I think the original price was $3,200, but it is totally negotiable. They may tell you otherwise, but they definitely have room to play on it. You should check with your dealer on it. Best of luck with it.

Congrats on your purchase! The way you wrote the above, it appears you get 2 years on top of your 1 year CPO and THEN up to 135K miles too. Should make sure it is that. My guess it is 2 years and 135K which ever comes first. How many miles are on your truck?

MB: C320 (2005) and '07 GL 450; Porsche: 911SC (1979), 997S (2006).
Regarding your parking brake issue, my '07 GL450 also rolls an inch or two after the parking brake is set with the transmission in Park if it is on an incline. It has done so since new, and it has not deteriorated into a bigger problem. I never really thought much about it because our C320 sedan does exactly the same thing.

Congrats on your purchase, enjoy it. Our GL has been very reliable since we bought it in May 2007.

There are 2 types of warranties:

1-by MB Dealer, for cpo cars only. So in addition to the 12 months of extended warranty that comes free with the CPO, you can add maximum of an additional 24 months for about $3200.

2- none MB warranty. you have to read the small print.

What date did your car went into service? late 2006 or in 2007? this would tell you how many additional months of extended warranty you are allowed to buy.
MB will not ensure a car more than 84 months from the date of service.

Thanks. I'm getting 2 years on top of the 1 year CPO (so 3 years total of extended on top of the original 4 year warranty) or up to 135,000 miles. The car has 40,000 miles now and went into service November 2008, so I'm covered until November 2015 or 135,000 miles. I don't see myself driving 95,000 miles in 4.5 years, but you never know. I can't believe the mpg's we're getting. Couldn't be happier as of now and having the warranty gives me comfort.

I believe it must be normal then to have a bit move with the parking brake. It was checked out at service today and all looks great!!! I am extremely happy with the ride!!!!!!!!! I am very organized, so might make April 1st as my maintenance day every year

Congratulations to you as well!!! Not sure about you, but for me it is a first Mercedes and first impressions are amazing...hopefully down the road will be the same.

One more question.....

What can I do to keep airmatic at optimal performance and so it lasts long? Is there any drain for condensation from the air tank or is it automatic? How long does the air suspension generally last?

Thanks!
