My dealer is telling me I can get the redesigned 2012 GL this July
I got a call from my salesman who I know for years and he told me that the new redesigned GL will be delivered starting July.
When searching the internet all I see are spy photos and no one is talking about ordering a new one. Usually when a car is coming out you will read or hear something on the net.
So today I called him and asked is this a redesign or just a facelift. He said it is a brand new GL and I can order it whenever I want. He knows the options available but the price has not been released yet.
Has anyone else heard of the new GL coming out this soon ?

I just bought my GL one month ago and researched all available sources to find out when the new model will come out on the market. I wouldn' buy it if I knew new model coming so soon. Ask your dealer for pictures of the car he's offering you. Botom line - he can't sell to you anything if you don't know how it looks like. Very interesting to hear his answer. As far as I know - new model coming out at the end of 2013 as 2014 model year. Please keep us posted about your conversation.

Unless I had a definitive answer or see what shows up as new and a redesign, I would delay the order. A five year model run doesn't sound right.

He's probably confused with the ML. A new model usually comes out every 7 years. You're looking at 2014 for the next GL-Class. And plus, I would never buy a first model year vehicle ever again after my old car.

The nice thing about the END of a model run is that they have usually refined the model and you get the benefit of all the corrections that have been made AND they include some aspects of what they plan to incorporate into the new model. My new 2011 GL450 rides, feels and mechanically performs way differently than my 07 ( first model year ) did!

That would be crappy if the GL got redisgned for 2012, my month old 2011 which I am very happy with I would look at as old news, I hate when that happens, but as someone mentioned, I beleive the redisgned one is due for 2014.

The build date he explained is July, delivery is August (my error I thought July was the delivery date) ...
He is a very straight shooter and I have purchasesd 3 other cars from him.

I know couple "good" salesmen on LI ( Lakeview and Rallye ) ....and I have to admit - they not always know what they're talking about.

surely he got confused with the new ML w166..as always said the new gl is scheduled for 2013...
example:
the ML grand edition has been on sale since a year ago....the GL grand edition is rumored will be available within 2-3 months...add about a year....= 2013...

That's what I thought too. Grand Edition GL means the end is near for the current model, but not for another year. It's very possible that all-new GL will come out late next year as 2013 model.

To the OP, as nice a guy as the salesman is...
You gotta figure in where and from who he gets his information. I'm thinking words were garbled at the 0830 sales meeting or the manager hit a wrong keystroke on the weekly sales memo and this guy is now passing along bad gouge about the Grand Edition being the new GL. Sucks to be at the fast end of the whip, I know. If this guy truly knows the secrets to MB's future lineup when there's no firm word to that effect on the Intermats, more power to him.
RE: the Gl grand edition - blacked out headlight baskets, meshed front bumper, and a plaque hardly makes a new car. That is so typical; however, just prior to introducing a new model. MB is basically putting more lipstick on a dead hooker.

Some call it lucky 13!!! and to some it is a lucky number and not all the buildibgs dont have 13th floor, my guess is they will relase the new GL in mid 2012 as a 2013 model and the 13 wont have anything to do with it.
