Slow and Noisy Tailgate Trunk Door 2008 GL320
Checking the forum - I see a lot of complaints about the tailgate door not closing and the latch fix that seems to take care of it.
While my door has occasionally failed to close - it is ALWAYS very slow and noisy in closing. By noisy, I mean a loud hissing/scraping type sounds throughout the range of motion.
I noticed a friend with a newer (2010) GL450 - the operation is smooth and quiet. Wondering if others, perhaps earlier model years (2007-2009?) have similar experience? If so what did MB change to have this apparently huge improvement?

I doubt anything's changed and instead yours is just particularly noisy and out of adjustment. My 2007 is good as new and has never been a problem. I'd go to dealer and discuss improving yours with required adjustment, new parts, etc.
