Life after warranty period
Are most people getting extended warranties?
Has anyone had major repairs after the warranty period has expired?
I don't mind changing vehicles, but there's just really not much else out there that is comparable that fits our needs. We're not big fans of the Suburban/Escalade platform. The Lexus GX and LX are not appealing either. We looked at the Q7, QX56, Sequoia, Expedition, land cruiser and X5 as well. What else is out there? Maybe a new GL, but I'd wait until the new body style in 2013 or whenever.
Class GL:
1 & 75,000 = 3118
1 & 100,000 = 3844
2 & 75,000 = 3421
2 & 100,000 = 4328
3 & 75,000 = 3784
3 & 100,000 = 4933

Now that there is a sexy vehicle. Cayenne S! It probably isn't a tell all but I owned a VW Phaeton (most people have no idea what it is). That car still has more features than any car I've driven to this day.
Anyhow, for all it's electronic wizbangs, every time I would turn around I was at the shop. Starting the car was like playing an arcade game. You never knew which light or buzzer was going to come on today. Air ride strut failure, thermostat, airbag sensors (twice), lighting modules, alternator. The list goes on and one. Luckily it was under warranty. During that warranty period I calculated over $20K in repairs. Nearly all electronic "modules" that needed to be replaced. The air ride suspension alone was $11K. Why? Because when one strut failed, they stated that have to replace it with the 2005 because it was redesigned. If I wasn't under warranty I'd have to pay 1/3 the cost. Because Phaetons only sold from 04-06 in the US, every repair meant I had to leave my car there for at least 1 day for the part to arrive since they don't stock Phaeton parts. Then there was the fact that NOOO dealerships could work on a Phaeton except for one about 25 miles away. Loaner car? You get a Passat.
Long story short the VW brand put a bad taste in my mouth. I would have never purchased a VW in the first place, but the Phaeton was in a class of it's own. Still is. I really wanted a Q7 so bad, but since Audi, VW, Porsche and Bently are all together I couldn't do it. On happier note, everyone I knew with a Phaeton (including a bunch of forum members at a meet up) never seemed to have the problems I had. I guess I got a lemon. Fool me once... you know the rest. lol.
Anyway enjoy that Cayenne S. I actually traded my CLS500 for a GL450, I came to this thread to get more info on that BT puck. I'm done ranting!

May I know the company from which you bought the Ext. Non-Factory warranty? I am currently looking to buy one as mine expired 2 weeks ago for my 2007 GL450. Thank you.
Here's a website:

Then everything goes downhill and you move on to the next one.
Dump your cvar and trade it in for the next one or:
Hit www.mymercedesparts.com tell jay Grane sent you and get hooked into their "finance mgr." for an MB warranty.
What I did with the gwagen was buy an oil change and they did $4k of work at 97 k miles. I went through the warranty line by line and wrote up a document that described the poor thing's complaints.
AMany more tips but a profit pool analysis we did back in the 90s show the poor basstards still think warranties are a profit center.
If they give you a hard time. which they will not, tell them basstards are a type of fish and the name of a secret M series found only in the Schwarzwald. It is a hybrid based on depleted uranium and the Greek bond markets .

When are the AMG/Astons arriving?

I want Abroath Smokies in a tank as a nutritional option instead of Bootooth.
