2011 GL 350 Service C...at 21k miles
Our 2011 service indicator went on and jumped from B to C the other day. Spoke to the service rep and took the big boy in...$888
which does not include the AdBlue which we do ourselves.
I left and decided to do more research before moving on. I don't intend to do the service myself. I'm not that handy.![smash](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smashfreak.gif)
Questions:
- Has anyone else's indicator jumped from B to C?
- Does this service price seem in line?
- Do we really need a brake flush at 21k? I've been reading 40k on this forum and I can't imagine this would be different for a diesel.
Thanks for the help, folks!

Where do you live? That can make a difference.
IMO brake flush is more about time than miles as the concern is moisture in the system. I'd do it at 2 years.
What is the difference between a B and C service?

My 2010 GL350 also went from A to C just past 20k miles a week ago. I did service A myself so bought the pump a year ago. Just went to the dealer and bought $312 of parts (cabin filter, air filter, fuel filter, oil filter, 9 Quarts of 229.51 engine oils and two clamp clips for fuel hoses). Dealer quoted me $900+ for the service so decided to diy. I had fun doing A with my 8 year old last time. Will definitely have more fun this time. I need to buy the Clamp Pliers for the special clips. Still looking around for more instructions on all the filter changes. Also paid a day access to download bunch of instructions from Star Tekinfo. Wish me fun!

Why more about miles than time? We're coming up on our one year anniversary in a couple of weeks.
Good question about the difference between B & C. Don't really know. But according to the maintenance booklet, for the GL-class at 20k or 2 years:
- Engine oil and filter change
- Replace fuel filter
- Replace combination or dust filter
- Replace brake fluid (does this mean flush too?)
I've read on this board for the diesels, changing the fuel filter is of utmost importance. Everything else on the list is a check. $888 feels high.
Also, on the brake fluid, it says "replace" in the maintenance booklet, but the dealer has "flush and renew".
Again, thanks for your help in advance.

I see the "time" issue as the longer the fluid has been exposed to humidity, the more moisture gets in the system. The brake fluid flush and renew are the same thing. The flush itself should only cost $150, even at the dealer.
Yes, fuel filter replace is required at 20k. Probably takes an hour replace.
I would talk to your dealer about lowering the price for the service. Members of the MB Club get discounts up to 20% at certain dealers. You may also want to find an independent shop. I'd shoot for $600-700 for this service.

So would you flush and renew brake fluid after 1 year and 20k? Is that dependent on the level?

Sorry if I was unclear. I would flush the brakes every 2 years regardless of miles. Unless you are tracking the vehicle! (joke)
