Bringing back a old thread. I waiting on my gl450 to arrive but have been shopping for wheels. I came across a set of 22x10.5 40mm offset. I am planning on running 305-40-22. Any one have pictures of the x166 running these specs? Would my wheel stick out too much?

Thank you, I'm just going to buy those 22x10.5 with 41mm offset and leave them in my garage until my gl gets here.

So if I'm going with a 22x10.50 wheel with +40 offset, and 285 tires on GL350/gl450 should look pretty wide and flush?

Folks just keep in mind when you increase the weight, esp fronts, the shocks, steering rack, air ride bags, will take beatings big time matters more of roads are bad like here in chicago ... solution to the Wheel itch, i found a light weight in aggressive offset, Rohana rf1 or rf2, I'm running it on the x5 and it's considerably lightweight, off the line response is much better and doesn't look too bad ... im not their employer
Need a pic on x5, text me 6308639367 uploads not working

O07 E350, what size and width? Keep in mind, I've been running 22" wheels and tires on my GL for over 160k miles and have no excess wear to speak of. I am running forged wheels that are around 15 lbs lighter than a cast wheel.

On the x5 I'm running 20x10 et33 front 20x11 et25 rear super concave 10 spoke wheel in black .. theyre wrapped in 275 40 29 front 315 35 20 rear, tires a continental dws, but this size won't work on GL, I was thinking 305 45 20

315 should work fine on the rear of a GL. 10" wheels in the front fit with no issue at all on the 450 and 11" should also work on the rear of the 450. For sure on the 550's. If my calculations are correct, you would need to run a 10" ET 50 on the fronts and a 11" ET 40 on the rears for a 450. On a 550, you would need a higher ET to get them closer to the edge of the flares.

I have factory 21x10ET37 amg wheels with 295/40R21 on all 4 corners of my 2009 GL550. With this size there is about 15-20mm clearance between the tire and the wheel carrier in the front, and about the same in the rear to the inner fender/wheel well.

I was also running 20x10.5ET30 with 295/45R20 for a few months.

22’s your just going to be running a shorter sidewall, possibly a 295/35R22 while trying to maintain the same overall rolling circumference.

Get the specs off the back of the spokes on the wheel your are looking to swap to. The “ET” number will be most important in determining how far inboard or outboard the wheel will be in relationship to the wheel hub mounting flange.

Using the example of the factory 21”ET37 wheel above with 15-20mm clearance inner sidewall. If we were to have a wheel with a +50 offset that’s a 13mm positive difference (50-37=13) pulling the wheel inboard an additional 13mm, leaving 2-7mm clearance between the tire and the wheel carrier or inner fender wheel in the rear.

Using the 20x10.5ET30 example compared to the factory wheel 21x10.5ET37, there is a negative -7mm difference pushing the wheel outboard 7mm this cancels out the inner clearance cause we have an additional 0.5” wheel width. So really the 10.5ET30 being a wider wheel still maintains the factory inside clearance while also sticking the tire/wheel outboard an additional 7mm.

‘wheel-size.com’. Is a great resource for looking up factory wheel sizes to compare.

https://www.lesschwab.com/article/wh...el-offset.html’. Has a good explanation and images of offsets.

Note: a lot of the newer Mercedes, GL/GLE 2013+ wheels have a large positive offset (ET57) compared to the older 2007-2012 GL models.

Ok, I’m done with my novel, pm me if you need a help sizing wheels!

will this fit ? I am trying to fit a 2017 GLE 22 inch wheels on my 2014 GL550. The offsets on 22s are 57 fronts and 40 in rears. I believe the lug nuts, bolt pattern and everything else matches.

I don’t see 22’s listed on wheel-size,com bit let’s go with the numbers you provided.

alright let’s look at the numbers:

2014 GL550 factory wheel size:
10Jx21 ET46 5x112

2017 GLE ?:
??Jx22 ET57 Front
??Jx22 ET40 Rear

the ET57’s are an additional 11mm inboard so I’d be concerned about strut, spindle, control arm clearance.

the ET40’s are an additional 6mm outboard, this doesn’t concern me, this will provide more inside wheel lip clearance to suspension, and stick out 6mm further then the original wheel.

The other variable we are missing here is wheel width the “J” number, but if the 22’s are 10” or less this won’t be an issue.

IMO, if your current wheels are not staggered, I’d get 4-??Jx22 ET40 wheels to better match your factory offset front and rear.

and yes the lug pattern 5x112, and center bore of 66.6 are the same.

I am sorry, front with 57 are 10 inch wide and rears are 11 inch wide.

ok, the 11” width means there’s about an additional 25mm width to the wheel over the 10”

That’s about 12.7mm inboard wider and 12.7mm outboard wider. Between the 21xJ10ET46 and 22xJ11ET40 we are gaining 6mm inboard clearance but subtract that from the additional inboard width and we get a Net of 6.7mm, so the 22xJ11ET40 will actually be 22xJ11ET52 in terms of inboard clearance compared to the 21xJ10ET46. That means the 22xJ11ET40 will actually sit 6.7mm inboard more than the 21xJ10ET46.

Do you have and more than 6.7mm inboard clearance to spare?

a little easier calculation here:
difference between the 21xJ10ET46 and 22xJ10ET57 is 11mm.

do you have an extra 11mm worth of clearance at the inner wheel lip?

If not id run the 22xJ11ET40 on all 4 corners.
