How was the drive compared to the GL?

It is a Dodge, therefore nothing like the GL.

Just came back from NY auto show. I spoke with MB rep and he said 2013 BlueTec model will be available with AMG sport package, so it will look almost like GL550. The only difference will be - no exhaust pipes in rear bumper. In general car looks bigger than current model. Interior is very nice, especially with designo package and multi contour seats…. exterior looks fresh, but nothing special. Overall I like it.

Now just one GL450 with EORP.
Why no offroad pkg with the 350?

Yes, I believe in 3 colors and all with black headliners.

Probably because MBUSA doesn't think the majority of diesel owners will bother off-roading or rock climbing. =J

What about diamond stitching on the AMG? Looking at the 2013 info for the ML, it seems like you can get designo on the non AMG models which may or may not be quilted but since the ML63 comes standard with designo, it doesn't seem like you can get quilted trim added to that.
IMO quilted looks much nicer than the regular designo AMG interior.

Why do you think it won't be available ? I'm sure you can special order it if you need it, but I have to agree with "dbtk" and MB - majority of GL owners (not only diesel) will never go off-road.

Yeah, I like taking my $90,000 fully loaded SUV out in the backwoods!!

"Honey! You scratched my paint!! You splattered mud on my doors!! YOU BROKE MY F***ING MIRROR!!" is what your wife would tell you, upon your return.

My running boards would like to have a word with them...

The package will be available on the gasser models, IMHO the low end grunt of the diesel is better suited to offroading than the V-8s. I can tell you it is actually pretty capable if the average owner would take his ***** out of his wife's purse and go for it. I'd be interested to see how the offroad package does.

The new twin-turbo V8 GL engines have much more power and torque than the 350 diesel engine. Most buy the diesel for mpg's but, yes, it can be a good offroad engine too.

The good news is that the GL350 BTC will have a spare tire (albeit a temp one) in case you decide to go rock climbing and blow a tire.

Yeah, see the R-class, which I absolutely love, came standard with run-flats.

Unfortunately, RFTs compromise the overall ride quality which MBUSA deemed unacceptable for luxury SUV buyers. I have RFTs on my 135i and the ride is somewhat harsh...and I typically run higher PSIs than recommended.

Well, the higher PSI will make the ride less soft if you have them at or just below the recommended, the ride will be a little softer. Just sayin'.

I run my 2011 GL350 run flats at the recommended pressure and the ride is not that good. Honestly, the Toyota Sequoia I rented while on vacation has a much better ride, and if they made that vehicle in a diesel, I'd probably buy it instead.

Yes, but the added road feel outweighs the ride compromise.
