Do you guys have any idea of what "Special Option #282" Second seat row pass-through means? Could it mean captains chairs in the second row??

No. It's when you fold the armrest down on the center seat, there's a trap door that will allow you to put skis or other stuff to poke through the middle of the 2nd row seat. Same idea as the pass through on the C and E Class cars.

I had it on my 07 450 and I loved having the capability to use it if I needed it. I really only needed it once to pull a boat trailer out of the muck where I launched it on the side of a river. That and the higher price I got when I sold it (just this week) made it all worth evedry penny. As a side note now I have to wait until my new 550 is built. I miss it already.

322, 289 IMO aren't very useful. 430 at your own discretion.
I think aspects of those first two packages can be added after you get the car should you change your mind, unlike the other options you listed.

Those are all useless options in my opinion - not worth the money. In fact, as someone who has the P2 package on my wife's 2011 GL350, I think that's a waste too - the upgraded audio system isn't that great for the money, and the Start/Stop button is a complete waste of money (standard equipement on much cheaper cars)... The Parktronic never gets used (just some LED's that light up when you get close to something), and you have a backup camera anyway so you don't really need the Parktronic. The wood steering wheel (which my wife likes) is too slippery for my liking - I prefer the grip of an all leather (or fake leather) wheel.

My wife's GL has P2 package and I agree HK stereo is not that good compared to E class HK sound, but regular stereo totally sucks. Harmon Kardon is the way to go.
Keyless Go - I, personally, don't care, but my wife likes it. She never takes her keys out of her handbag.
Parktronic - depends where you live. Here in NYC it's very usable option along with back up camera.
HID lights - IMO you should not buy ANY luxury car without it. Big difference compared to regular lights. I just got E Bluetec one month ago with P1 package. My previous E had P2 where HID included. I could not drive this car at night time until HID kit was installed. It seems like no lights at all after you used to HID. Even HID kit is not the same as factory HIDs.
Wood steering - I have it on my E class and agree it can be skipped. Regular wheel is better.
If you don't go off road - you can easily skip this option also.

So to get this straight you are buying a 450 not a 550. Even though I'm a fan of the off road package you can give that up and out of the remainder of the items give up the wood leather wheel. But then again this is my prefference and why they call them options.

There are a lot of GL's in my town, so I've done an informal study over the past couple of days. I saw roughly ten GL's, and every single one was driven by a woman (including my wife). I suspect most of the posters on this board are men, because most women aren't interested chipping their engines or upgrading to 22s. And my study was limited to a small statistical sample, so I'M sure that more than 0% of GL drivers are men. That 90% male GL driver stat in Benz insider cant be accurate. No way.

I'll agree with that 90% of the people who are on the books as paying a car loan and registration fees on a GL may be men, but most drivers are women. I get to drive mine (my wife's that is) on weekends if at all. I own it, I maintain it, but I bought it to keep our family in a safe vehicle. I'll go out on a limb and say that a lot of us think of and operate a GL like this. I can't justify taking this thing as to work as a singleton, nor will I ever hear the end of it if I give my wife the keys to my 4Runner DD.
Just a comment..... Over the years....I have had two GL's, one Yukon, one Suburban, and various other "stuff".... that my wife has absolutely no interest in driving... she would rather drive something small, easy to park, sporty looking, etc.
So, I always have available the 2nd vehicle which she likes! She classifies the above mentioned as "trucks" and has no interest.

2011 GL450 P2, Appearance Pkg, Leather. 2012 C250, P1, Sport, AMG Wheels, Panorama Sunroof.
I was at Mercedes of Miami dealership last week for service. While I was waiting for my GL I was walking around the lot and hidden in the back, backed into the parking spaces were 2 GL's. But something seemed different, the headlights were different and so was the front spoiler. I walked over to take a closer look and lo and behold, (2) 2013 GL550's. They did not have the price sticker on the window. I went inside to inquire about the GL's since I thought they were not coming out until late this year. My salesman said that those were not for sale. He said that they were for a commercial with a tennis player (i forgot the name). I have seen many photos of the new GL and I did not think of purchasing one but in person, WOW. The interior is leaps and bounds better than my 2011. Of course these were 550's but they looked great, much more aggressive than the model it replaces. Now I just have to convince my wife.

Thanks for this PDF attachment. This confirms my fear that the AMG Package will only be available in GL550.
I like the aggressive styling of the front/rear bumper of GL550, but I was planning on getting GL350BT/GL450. It is a bummer that Mercedes did not learn from BMW that makes M-sport package available for most of its line.
This got me really thinking hard about whether or not to look at 2013 GL as my next SUV.

so is the 2012 sticking with the current body style and the normal aspirated engines
with the 2013, the 450 and 550 engines are the same, i find that interesting, simply more boost on one eh?
