The New GL 63 AMG

So I definitely lost money on this one. AMG just announced the new GL 63 AMG. There are more pics / info on the AMG PL.

Europe's launch is Nov 2012 but US' launch is Q1 2013. Pricing will be announced closer to release date.

I wonder how much it'll cost because the GL550 has most options as standard so if they continue with that trend the GL63 should have most items standard as well. Compared to the ML where almost everything's an option, the price gap may be quite high between the two and the gap between the GL550 and ML63 might be pretty close.

This SUV full size with 7 passengers will MOVE pretty damn fast especially with Performance Package or a Vtech tune.

This sounds crazy but a 2012+ white gl passed by me in the opposite direction and I swear when I looked in my side and rear mirror it had the trapezoidal quad tips. Not the 550 quad tips. I'm guessing they must have custom installed a set from another AMG 63 model - and it looked damn good.

No mention of the higher HP engine option that they have for the ML?

Woohoo!!!!
If my wife DOES make me trade my S550V4 in for a 3-row SUV, this is the one I'm getting! Will be interested to see the finance model though...

I have a hard time trusting a company like Vtech chip tuning. I would choose Renntech over them every day of the week. Who is more like to stick by your side if something goes wrong? Besides, Renntech is trusted enough by Mercedes dealerships that they sell the cars new with Renntech tuning. I don't know of any Mercedes dealer that would do that with Vtech.

How about 10.79 @ 130.77 MPH

I don't know why 550(+)hp isn't enough.

No such thing as enough.

Just like many people feel the ML350 is enough with 302hp or the ML550 is enough with 430hp and they can't fathom something with more. Well, you bought an AMG and it has 550 but of course some people are still looking for more. I haven't touched the engines on either of my AMGs because it's enough for me, but if I can add 120hp with a simple chip to unleash the engine's full capacity then I would (in reference to Renntech's chip which boosts power up to 669).

Too much power is rarely a concern; rather, it's too little traction that is a problem.

Everyone over at the CLS AMG forum seems to really like Vtech so far and their results against supercars and at the dragstrip. So I give it credit. I'm not sure on the price but I might think it'd be a bit cheaper too than the expensive Renntech tune.

Exactly. There are those with the 4 door supersedans (CLS AMG, E AMG) who want to be able to take out a stock Ferrari 458 Italia or a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 or a stock Nissan GTR 2013 from a highway roll or dragstrip. So they just get a simple software ECU tune and then they'd be able to do that... Sounds simple and IT IS since it's just a tune.

The beauty of the 5.5 Twin Turbo V8 from AMG.

The more I look the pics the less I like the GL63. It's too soft and round looking. The styling is not aggresive enough. But I'm also not sold on the 2013 GL's in general.

AMS now has a Alpha 10 Package for the GL550 pushing 1000 HP! No longer do you need a GL63 !
