the rears are air bags and they are cheaper.

they look like little rubber kegs.

the fronts look like struts and are such (with little rubber kegs in there too

There have been several threads on this topic.

1. All four are eventually replaced. OEM parts suck.

2. You're a fool if you use anything but the Arnott parts.

3. Rears are easier than easy to change but fronts aren't that bad either if you're a halfway competent mechanic.

4. Arnott insists on you changing the little fitting at the end of the air hose; personally, I wouldn't if I did it all over again. I thought changing the fitting grossly overcomplicated the installation. You could always not change the fitting and test it for leaks after installation.

I had the Malfunction error with the front being low the back seems fine. I took it to the dealer and they are asking for $3995 to replace front shocks and air struts. I'm sure this is not reasonable. I took to another mechanic and he said only air shocks need to replaced any advice?

It is better to replace air struts and shocks at the same time. Usually, you would buy it assembled together. The best distributor as far as I know is Arnott Industries - look here - https://www.arnottindustries.com/par...18_pid146.html. You also can get 10% discount from them. They often offer that discount. These shucks may be even better than OEM.

I replaced it myself. As a result, I am not sure how much it would cost. The work is not complex but you need to have a garage and the right tools. The dealer's price is outrageous. Nobody in the right mind would do it with them, except if the car is under the warranty or has no other choice. I hope it helps.

Hi all, 2007 GL450 owner... just purchased it last week. It's 11 years old (originally sold in '06), but with only 44,000 miles. Jumping in on this zombie thread as I am now doing the Airmatic two-step on me: Yesterday morning the passenger rear was way down, about 3cm lower than the driver's rear side. Figured bad air shock right away. Great... But this morning, that corner is fine, wit zero drop from night before. And to make it more interesting, after measuring all four corners, the front passenger is has a 1cm drop overnight. Maybe it was low as well yesterday, and the huge drop in the rear kept me from noticing it. Only had this a week, and was fine up until yesterday (that we noticed). Any suggestions as to how should I proceed??? While the years suggest changing the shocks out, mileage is really low (that's why we bought it). I figure I can swap the rears easily, front require a bit of work. But is the intermittent and inconsistent dropping normal, and how to identify which are bad (all?)? Just seems all a bit sooner than I was planning... :-(
