Got a GL as a loaner for a week
Dropped off my C63 at the stealership and they gave me a 09 GL as a loaner. After 300ish kms today I have to say the GL is quite nice
. wife has always said once her GLK lease is up she would like a GL to drive the kid around. I've been hesitant cause the truck is so big, but it really handles well for its size. Wife enjoys driving it as well.
anways, I do want to say, one thing that impressed me was the gas mileage. Diesel + 300kms only used 1/4 of the tank. However, I'm guessing I'll have to take a bank loan to fill the tank

had to haul lots of stuff around today and I'm appreciated the cargo space especially with the 2 rows of seats down.
However, I think MB could've done more in terms of the sunroof. The 2nd row has no sunroof and the two in the front and rear are inferior to what I've seen in other SUVs. Here is the interior of a Q7

Also, I'm hoping they have made considerable updates to the console / steering wheel layout as I found it not as user friendly as my C63 / GLK.

I almost bought the Q7 partly because of the cool panoramic sunroof as noted above. The downside to the Q7 was the tiny 3rd row (useable only for kids), smaller rear cargo area, and slightly cramped 2nd row seating. Definitely a cool car and it was a tough decision.

so the CEL went on over the weekend. will be taking the GL back to MB for another loaner. I will be ok with anything except a smart car, b class and a GLK.
ultimately the GL performed very well. I guess it was the smaller engine size at 320, I put 700kms on it and the tank still has a quarter of fuel left. that is very very impressive. I'm used to filling up every other day.
in conclusion, the GL will definitely be considered when it is time to replace the wife's glk

I replaced my wifes 09 ML350 gas with a 2011 GL350 Bluetec last year, the best thing i ever did. Its primarily for her and our young children and I fill it up about once per month. The mileage is incredible considering this is a very big vehicle. I took it on a road trip with the family to Niagara Falls, averaging about 130km/hr, both tv's on, airconditioning on and I still managed 1100km on a tank....incredible. As far as the third row sunroof, even if it was operational I know I would never use it as the kids would rightfully complain.
