My NAV (2008 GL320) stars from the entry screen and you have to hit MAP every time you start just to get the map displayed.
My 2007 E350 shows the map if left in that mode when turned off.
Even my stand along GPS revert to showing map when you are driving and have not entered a route.
Is there a setting I have missed somewhere?
