another GL450 falling apart
I've been a long time fan of MB, but now losing faith in the brand quickly. Here is the list of items I have changed since acquiring the GL450 back in 2007. Currently have 65K miles on the dash:
AC compressor and several sub parts (1.5K)
air springs (both sides) and compressor (2K)
gear box (changed electronic plate and solenoid) 3K
engine cam sensor issue (2K)
rear door handle mechanism the latest requiring the replacement of item 164.730.24.35 (another 500 or more)
Beware with the early GL's. They are really junk.
Do we have any Benz retailers here @ mbworld.org who give us discounts when we order daimler parts? I need item 164.730.24.35 and I might be in for future parts in the near future :-(

I have over 135k on my 2007. Mine is not nearly as problematic as yours. Had two air struts replaced, cam plugs replaced, window trim replaced, electronic plate in the transmission, and wheel bearings on the right rear side. I would buy another GL.
