Swapping 07 GL450 with LX 570, Please Advise.
Hi Guys,
So far my 07 GL450 has been a disaster every few months I am at the dealer helping him make $$$ on my car, changed tires 2 sets within 20K miles because it was not able withstand the Snow, changed 2 front Air shocks, back Air springs and 1 Left rear shock, last month changed Power steering pump, replaced Spark Plugs, replaced 2 blown coil springs (7 & 8) and Replaced all Brake pads and Rotors in November (4K Miles ago) replaced Transmission conductor plate in September 2013, and etc etc.....
Now not sure what my GL would come up with, it might come up with some repair or it might not, one of my indy mechanic said Oil looks like leaking but he was sure and I guess it was the Steering pump making it look like leaking...So I am confused big after putting so much money in and make it road worthy will it be reliable for another 40-50K current mileage on the car is 89000 or is like I am repairing the car and giving it someone to enjoy....
Other hand I am getting a good LX 570 2011 model with 50000 miles its a CPO and I am getting 17500 for my GL450 as trade in and the LX is costing me 51500 and with $5000 down the finance is coming up to 32000 something so not sure whether to get into again this payment crap but IF IF IF I have to keep spending the money on this car I guess I should say bye bye to this car....
And the big draw back with LX 570 is the 3rd row seating as of now sometimes my dad goes in my GL 3rd seat and he likes it but if I buy LX it will strictly be for my kids who are 4yrs-3yrs-2yrs old, so not sure how long LX will come along for my 3rd row seat does anyone has any idea how long kids are able to use the 3rd row seat in LX570
And last is I searched all over the net for LX 570 issues and couldn't find any its like none and I pretty sure that it is a reliable tank which would last longer with no issues....
But I should agree the ride in GL is more better than LX but for a family man I wont be doing 90 -100 MPH on highway so with 70 -80 MPH that truck is good and yes the cargo (trunk) space is no where comparable to GL450
Please advise what you think is worth doing at this moment.

HA! Funny that I was tossing between LX570 and GL 320CDI, 4 months ago.
I think the LX/GL just pretty much as good as others. GL is more economic to run (including both insurance/fuel consumption) in long run while the Lexus is proven a more reliable car, but VERY, VERY thirsty.
At the end my wife feels the GL has the "MB badge" so I have been "kindly advised" to pick the GL.

What about finding a pre-owned GX460? If I recall correctly, we found a 2012 with LOW miles that was ~$48k. It had a power third row, which seems much more useful than the LX. The only drawback (and deal breaker for the wife) was the way the rear/hatch door opened. It swung out like a barn door. Would seem impossible to get access while in our garage (with garage door shut). It rode VERY nicely and was very quiet. Didn't have the features of our 2010 GL550 either. But we were thinking the same as you...do we keep investing money in the GL (ours has ~49k/mi) or trade it in while everything is functioning properly? We decided to keep the GL, as it's paid for and seems to be "stable" for now. Uh, that is I just replaced the rear hatch motor/lock yesterday!

I just purchased my GL350 9 days ago. And I looked alot 3rd Row Vehicles..
The LX570 just didn't make my radar it was terrible on fuel, 3rd was funky and it just wasn't good at any one thing other than being a Toyota.
My Primary List was
MB GL350
X5 3rd row Diesel
Escalade Hybrid
Infiniti QX56/QX80
Audi Q7 TDI
2nd options were
Buick Enclave
Lincoln MKT Ecoboost
Infiniti JX35
Dodge Durango
MB R350
LX570
Acura MDX
Now I would highly recommend the Q7 TDI especially a prestige or S-Line I owned a 3.2 V6 S-Line one and loved it but it can't hold a candle to the fuel economy of GL350.
All the vehicles on my list had something I liked. To me the LX570 was very low on my list I just didn't feel it had much to offer that made it stand out.

LX 570 are excellent cars and an absolute tank. Thirsty? Yes but it makes that up with reliability and resale value. The GL, while better on fuel, probably costs more per mile on running costs when factoring in depreciation comparing the two.
I just can't get over the looks. That is what holds me back instead of fuel mileage.

The most recent model looks downright evil.
For what it's worth, the 2013 GL450 looks like a minivan.
