Mercedes GL 320 CDI Question

I have a 2008 GL 320 CDI....each time we get out of the vehicle and shut either the front drivers door or the front passenger side door, it sounds as if a burst of air comes from under the hood....why does this vehicle do this....we have had several C Class vehicles and have never heard this....thanks for your info!!

C class vehicles don't have airmatic. Yes, the sound is normal.

The answer is probably not quite that simple. Yes, the GLs have airmatic and the C Class do not and thus cannot have noises associated with the air suspension system.
On the other hand we had a '07 320 CDI before we got the current '08 320 CDI. With the '07 we frequently (but not always) noticed a "puff" particularly from the region of the R front fender when we exited the truck. On the '08 we have NEVER noticed a similar noise.
I theorize that M-B made improvements to the small air muffler attached to the airmatic control system. It may be that the muffler has become detached on your car thus you hear the noise. Rest assured, it does no harm.
