Diagnostics Tool and Software
What's the popular diagnostics tool + software among MB owners who are DYI'ers in here? Any recommendations? I know in VW/Audi platform we're using the Ross-Tech cable and software, anything similar to MB platform?

I have tried to start a Diagnostics locator like on tdiclub here. I also posted the system I bought in there (you can look for the ebay link) and it seems to work really well.

Thanks! Subscribed to your thread, hope the database gets bigger in time. How are you liking your diagnostics tool? Does it come with a manual like the Ross-Tech VAGCOM?

I have not seen one.... I just started poking around and found it really easy to use. It does have detailed instructions for EVERYTHING on the car.

I'll "join the club"
I came to MB after 16yrs of buying Audis, and I've been a VW/Audi Ross-Tech user for most of this time. It was a God-send for DIY work and modifying all sorts of vehicle settings. My first question, also, was whether something equivalent existed for the MBs. I'm eager to get some control over the vehicle settings rather than running to the dealer for every small thing.

It seems to be as capable as the Vag Com. Keep in mind that the MBs have a lot more electronics. I was able to lower my car with the MB Star cable. Mine even came up and asked if I wanted to update one of my modules.

You need to get yourself a Star Diagnostic system.
Same tool the dealer uses. Try your luck with an ebay one
