quick question about brake system
Hi, family. I have 2008 GL450. I was driving it for almost 6 month and never took it to the mountains. So i did for new year. There was terrible traffic, and I paid attention that even when i am on the hill facing up and making full stop after i release the brake pedal, car staying still, exactly as HOLD system i saw on some Benzes. So simply i dont need to hold my foot on brake pedal on uphils. But i do not see HOLD logo on my cluster. So what is it?

Out Of Control!!
Older MB don't show "HOLD", but on my 08 GL320 the hold is only for a few seconds, unlike my 07 E350 which holds until you hit the gas.

Hill Start Assist. Holds brake pressure for about a second or two when on a grade of 5 degrees or more. "Brake Hold Feature" holds pressure after a quick jab of the brake pedal when stopped on any road condition until you depress the accelerator pedal.
I don't think either of you have a malfunction.

Should an '08 GL320 have both?

Mine seems to only hold the brakes if on an up hill gradient but will hold for as long as you don't push down on the accelerator pedal. To engage this function you need to hold the brake pedal down and then push it in even a little deeper. Then when you take your foot off the brake pedal, the pedal stays down more or less and the brakes are held until you press down on the accelerator pedal.

I am little bit confused, so how exactly this thing works? It worked when i had car behind me but then i tried to duplicate on the empty road and it didnt. Maybe parking sensors are involved?

Hill assist.
You push the brake firmly and it holds (Gl about a second or two, E much longer, maybe indefinitely)
"HOLD" you push the backs firmly after stopping and the brakes hold on, till you touch the gas or the brake. Have only experienced this in newer MB (service loaners) that show "HOLD" on the dash.

You have to be on an upgrade where the car would roll backwards.

This to confirm that I have Hill Assist on my 2008 ML. Tested on a steeper gradient, the vehicle rolls backwards after 1 or 2 seconds having held the brakes down firmly and then releasing.
