Transmission Fluid Clarification

I'm coming up on 40,000 miles and I'm gathering tools and parts for the Service C which I'll be doing myself. Part of that service is a transmission fluid replacement. I've found some good info on how to do this and ordered the tool to drain/fill the torque converter, which isn't too much different from other transmission fluid jobs I've done. What I'm not sure about is what fluid I should be buying.

I've seen reference to Sheet 236.14 which lists fluids with the '134' designation from various manufacturers, as well as Sheet 236.15 which lists fluids with the '134 FE' spec. Apparently the 134 fluid is red and the 134 FE fluid is blue.

I've got a 2012 GL 350; which one am I supposed to use? I've seen reference that 2010 and earlier use the red fluid, and 2011 and later use blue, but given that you have to jump through hoops to get any of this stuff, I want to have the right fluid on hand so I can knock this service out as quickly as possible.

Thanks

OK, so I guess I'll reply to my own post. Pulled up the EPC tonight and figured out how to get into 'paint and fluid' mode and found part number A 001 989 78 03 for my 2012 GL. That turns up on the sheet 236.15 which means I need the blue 134 FE fluid. I ordered up a case of 12; never hurts to have a few extra laying around the shelf.

134FE

I have a mid year production 2011 and recently did my 40k maintenance as well. Before I started I did my research on the parts etch as well and found a document I may have a hard copy of that stated the transmission numbers where they transitioned to the blue fluid. I found my transmission number on my vehicle in the EPC parts directory and it used the blue fluid.

When I drained the fluid sure enough it was blue-green (dirty blue). The transfer case however is the red 134 fluid however on mine anyway.

Would either of you share you info on the fluid change procedure. I have 2008 320 and need to get this done soon. I want to do it my self to save some scratch and get to know my car better. Any help is greatly appreciated.
