Thinking of a 2007 GL450- Why Not ?
I found a 2007 GL450 with 38k showing, one owner + service records. In service date looks like 5/06 and price is very attractive.
I spoke with my local indy MB shop and they said to watch out for the Airmatic Suspension and an "idler bearing assembly" inside the engine. Air Suspension Compressor replaced at 26k.
What is involved in both of these issues ? Are there any other issues common to the 2007 GL and what should I be aware of ?
Can I still get an extended warranty on an 8yr old car ?
Thanks !

Search the forums [advanced search, this forum only] for "Reliability" in the thread title only and you will find stories out the wazzoo good and bad. Air struts are a wear item--plan on replacing them every 60-90K miles. Extended warranty is going to be an arm and a leg for an 8 year old car and there are far more disreputable companies than good ones. I Think you'd be better off putting money in a kitty for repairs and go from there.
This was a $70K car new, so expect to service it as such regardless of age.

Bought our 2007 GL450 2 years ago with 49k on the clock. It has spent about 16 weeks total in the shop and repairs of over $8k; Replaced the front airmatic shocks (currently in the shop again for the rears as they now sag 100% of the time), replaced the DVD player, rear lift gate motor and actuator, fixed leaks in the rear hatch, driver seat melted a hole in it from the seat heater (which was not on at the time) and had to replace the seat foam and leather, power folding mirror replaced, power steering pump leaked and seals were replaced, driver's valve cover seal leaked and replaced, driver's side window lock control stuck and required replacement of the entire control, replaced the battery and found an inch of water standing in the battery well (conveniently located under the passenger seat)..... That's all I can think of at the moment. The thing eats tires, the oddball 19" size wheel limits your tire choices ($$$), DIY oil changes cost me $90. Clearly its all on me for choosing the wrong vehicle. I decided to get a little hoity toity I guess and it has cost me dearly. This was not a wrecked car and was purchased from a very reputable dealer.
