Did you hit the "open" button on your radio (or maybe it is eject? The front flips open and behind it are a couple of slots. One is the Nav DVD

Sorry, I'm a moron. We have an '08 and a '10 and I got them confused. The '10 (like your '11) updates by taking a nav disk and inserting it in the Comand Unit. Can take a while. When I did this with the '10 it was an hour or two.

It's hard drive based. An update consists of two disks for the 2015 edition.
No disk to pop out like many other systems use. Toyota and Honda. Nissan uses the SD card now.
There is a madness to get the version out of it. Can't remember at the moment. Chances are it was not done. It's extremely expensive to buy the updates. 250+. I refuse to be held hostage by NAVTEQ.
I've got a Panavise custom mount and use a Garmin Navi with lifetime maps. So much cheaper. I just pop it off the ball mount and toss in the glove box or the wife/kids use it. Kids prefer to use the iPhone so not really worries about them.
