Decided to change wheels, need advice on size

All,

After much research and thought I decided to change my wheels from 21" because of the outrageous cost of tires which have short lifespan and limited choices. This would give me a wider range of tire to choose from and cost will be more tolerable.

the question is should I go:

- 20"x10" replica
- 22"x10" replica

and which vendor is the best to get these wheels from. I need them to be hubcentric.

current vehicle info:

Vehicle: 2009 GL550
Wheel size: 21"

Please advise...

22's will look better 20's will get better mileage. Just depends on what is important to you.

Thanks for your response, I have decided to go with 20".

Next question is about tire size.

can i run 295/50/20 or 305/50/20 on a 20x10 et50 without rubbing in the front?

they are recommending 275/50/20 or 285/50/20, my fear is that they will look skinny and not flush on a GL550 especially with the flares.

The 295/40/21 already is not flush with the fender so i can imagine the 20" with a 50mm offset.

need some advice...

I use Ebay quite a bit. Just make sure the seller has good ratings and Ebay has the buyer protection on the product and you will be fine.

20"X10" Replica

Tires:
i also bought 285/50/20 yokohama parada spec-x.

Now i have to think about moving my TPMS from one wheel to the next.

How easy is it to reprogram if I buy a new or used set?

Looks nice. I wouldn't think there is any programming if you buy the right tpms' for your GL.

I sent back the 285/50/20.

I received the tires today, and another surprise, I received the "air suspension malfunction error"

Here are some picts of the yokohama, i went with 295/45/20, looks wider than expected.

Our GL420 came with 22" after market rims and they do look boss but we do a lot of towing (worried about pot holes and ride quality). Haven't really noticed any mpg drop on the 22's to be honest but I don't look that closely.

We use our GL in two modes effectively long range towing or short range school runs.

Where did you source your tires from?

When buying our car I managed to negotiate getting the original 19" wheels as part of the sale and swap between them when towing or in the winter.

I bought mine from Tire rack, I bought 285/50/20 but I was told 295/45/20 is a better fit and also more aggressive.

My GL went to the shop this morning for the air suspension issue.

The wheels are coming today, hopefully i will have everything on early next week.
