Burning Oil

my 2007 gl450 is burning oil. its coming from the passenger side of the motor(smoke from the tail pipe). It goes through about 2 1/2 quarts every 2-3 weeks. Without me doing a leak down test, is there a usual suspect on these motors? Guides?rings?

It might be time to get rid of this old dog. shes got 160000 miles and things are slowly taking toll.

burning or leaking? you should not be burning oil at 160k miles. if leaks - check your oil plugs in the engine block. they do leak, but are easy to replace.

sounds like its burning if it is coming from the [inside] of the passenger side tailpipe.

sorry for the late response on this. It definitely is burning oil. As I mentioned, its going through about 2.5 qrts every 2-3 weeks. I have been checking the plugs and the #6 cylinder is burning oil. I'm not sure if its going through valve guides or the piston rings. I'm assuming its coming from the valve guides. I am thinking about pulling the cylinder head and putting in new guides. I have no real experience with benz motors but I have done plenty of chevy engines. So, does this sound like what needs to be done? I'm not sure if these motors have valve guides so I'm just thinking like if it was a chevy engine.

And, I did not do a leak down test. My wife did run the oil low because of the expansion plugs were leaking. The guides would be the most logical answer.
