Blind Spot Assist - Can I change the sensors myself?
So I get the "blind spot assist inoperable" error on my 2011 GL350 and of course I'm past the extended warranty. From everything I've read it's almost always an issue with the rear sensors.
Any way to confirm that it's the rear sensors? Can I swap the sensors myself? Are they easy to replace? Anyone else done this?
Thanks for any and all help.

The radar sensors are most likely mounted in the rear bumper on the left and right side. They are most likely mounted to the body so remove rear bumper and you should see them. Question is are you sure they are bad?

Couldn't find any other threads similar so I'm bumping this one.
I've got a 2012 GL350 and recently started getting false errors in the drivers side of my BSA. Occasionally the red lights will randomly flash while driving along. When I turn the turn signal on, it will occasionally flash red and beep to indicate something there when the lane is empty. Becoming more and more regular like this. Anyone changed the sensor themselves? Is it as simple as swapping the part or is there a setup involved that the dealer needs to do?

I got that problem. The boxes that contain the radar sensors are sealed tight, but with the years the seal breaks and the humidity enters inside, then the blind assist will make false detections. In my case I got the situation for several weeks until one day it made a more serious shortcut, the car through it was an accident, so it entered collision mode (all wheels blocked, all lights inside blinking like crazy, motor off and refuse to start up) I was forced to call road assistance and carry the car back to dealer.
They changed both radar boxes and most of the wires from the computer to the boxes. Part of the repair was covered by the good will warranty, as my radar boxes had only 2 years of life (it seem the old owner had the same problem, so it was the second time the trouble happened on the car on 5 years of life MB GL350 2012)
If you don't plan to repair soon, you can ask the dealer to deactivate the BSA system, so that you don't get into collision mode like me

Good to know. Thanks for the reply. I was rear ended in the truck about a month after buying it last summer. The rear bumper was all replaced. I wonder if that is what led to the problem now.

Well maybe because of the accident the bsa box was cracked and humidity has crawled inside. It wasn’t me who did the repair so unfortenally I cannot give you more info other than that. The bsa box must be water tight, otherwise you get false positives and maybe a shortcut.
