2008 GL320 CDI 4MATIC camping and adventuring

Hi Guys,

New to the forums (used to have a C55 a few years ago but sold it). I'm back in a Benz and this time it's 4wd! Let's go adventuring!

Love to see GLs getting used off road in the wild! Any water come in the interior from that water crossing?

Sweet. I just started offroading in my GL450. It's a surprisingly capable vehicle. I just bought five wheels (Ebay) and put Dick Cepek Trail Country tires on them. Tried to do a trail, but the one I picked had rocks too big for me to get anywhere.

Land Rover Discovery series I
Looks like a boat load of fun. If I had a second GL if rough it up but since I don't I'll use my '96 Discovery for trails.

Besides, the mrs would kill me.

How did you not make it over that? Clearance or no traction?

Traction was fine though I had a tiny bit of wheelspin climbing up it. The dirt is really soft, like a powdered clay.

I was pretty confident I'd scrape the bottom. Clearance is 13" and it looked like it was right around that. Furthermore, the driver's front suspension would have compressed when the front went down.

Had the suspension in offroad lift mode, of course.

Turns out I was right, because I did scrape the bottom going over a smaller rock about ten minutes later.
