Red Fuel Cap Error message then check engine light but gas cap tight

3 days ago the red gas cap error message popped up. I had to stop at a store and checked gas cap and it was tight. I took it off and put it back on just to be sure. However, the check engine light came on when I restarted car. Its been over 10 starts and check engine light will not go away. Do I have to have it reset? What other causes could cause the message? Is the cap not sealing tightly maybe?

The gas cap light and CEL might be related, or they might not. You have to get the code read.

Gas caps can, and do, fail internally.

I am getting the same thing: randomly the red gas cap light comes on, and check engine light stays on.
I bought a brand new gas cap but still getting the same problems.
Pulled codes: P0455, P0172

Would greatly appreciate any help.
