Wheel bearing/hub replacement - 2012 GL350

Hello - I have searched for quite a while on here for this answer and apologize if this is obvious to some. I have learned a ton on information on here by reading posts, and have saved thousands of dollars so far on routine stuff like oil and filter changes and brakes. I believe that most of this job is within my skill range, but do not care to try to remove and press in the new bearing myself.

I need to replace my right front wheel bearing. The dealer quoted me $950 for this, which I can't do right now. I have replaced wheel bearing before, but on a much older car without abs sensors ect..

I have been looking for the wheel hub and bearing assembly as a unit so that I can just replace the entire thing. I can't locate this option anywhere in the online parts stores. My specific model, 2012 GL350 appears to not have this combination available.

If I remove the wheel hub and bring it to a shop with a new bearing and Mercedes grease, are there places that will remove and repress in the new bearing? This is the option I would like to use, as it appears to be much less expensive.

My concern is getting the bearing packed correctly and installed the correct direction so that the sensors will work with the new bearing. This is the option that I would like to do if possible. Maybe this is very obvious for a shop that does this all the time, but I have read about 15 posts on this site about bearings going in the wrong way and causing issues.

Is this a common thing to have done, and how do I go about finding a shop that will do this for me. I do not personally know anyone that can do this work for me.

Thanks for any advice on the matter!

Just show up in person at few local full service repair shops around 4pm. Bring some cash. Go to any mechanic you can get a hold of and ask him. Most folks will do it for like $50. Or you can call your local Indy German shop and ask them if they will do it if you bring in the parts.

Alternatively go to harbor freight and buy a hydraulic press for $150 (or there abouts) and do it yourself. It is not hard especially if you have done it before.

I did this twice. First I did it myself with a press. Second time, I brought the part to the local shop and they did it for $30 cash after-hours. I got OEM bearings for ~$100. Paying $950 for this is just crazy.

Did you get your wheel bearing replaced? It's likely to be the same on the X164 as it is on the W164.

I have the same issue now (just changed to new set of tires, 'roaring' issue that increases with speed still present from front passenger side). I was advised to order a new bearing and a wheel hub by an indy mechanic. I'm going with these two parts. I'm concerned that the bearing might not be the correct one to get. Does this look right?

Bearing: Mercedes Wheel Bearing - NTN WE60391
Hub: Mercedes Wheel Hub - Febi Bilstein 1643560201

Bearing seems to be correct one, and seems to be right thing to replace
Are you sure you need a new hub? Or your indy just doesn't want to do the labor of removing old bearing from existing hub?

Bearing outer race might be spun in the hub.
