hard downshifts?
128k miles. New transmission by MB dealer at 100k. Smooth up and down shifting for 28k but downshift between 2nd and 1st now becoming rather abrupt and hard fairly frequently.

i would begin by resetting tcu adaptations and driving around for a week. while there i would check to see if there is an updated tcu software for your truck.
if that doesnt help i would try to modify 2-1 downshift pressure values to obtain smoother shifting.
if that doesnt help i would change tranny fluid and while in there remove valvebody and inspect/ clear solenoid strainers for debris.

Yes it does it cold or fully warmed up.
Thanks for the tips.
It sounds like I am stuck making a visit to the MB workshop which is something I abhor, partly for the cost but mostly for the inconvenience..
