Please help with part identification - photos included

Hello all,

I have a small oil leak that is starting to cause a mess. I have been reading about the common oil cooler seal leak, and while I was looking for the oil cooler I believe I found the actual issue.

It is the red rubber gasket from the pictures. I have tried searching for the replacement part by inputing the numbers from the part, but am not having any luck. I am thinking that if I know what the part was called I would have a better chance of locating it. This red seal has a gigantic crack down the side, so it is not holding a seal at all.

I will admit to not understanding the function of the sensor and hose the sensor is on, or why oil is flowing through this hose at all.

If anyone knows the name of what this red rubber seal is please let me know. Even the name of the hose it is on would be helpful. I am having trouble figuring this out.

Thanks for any help.

It is the red rubber gasket on the picture next to my hand. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you very much for the reply!!! Sorry I should have posted the numbers instead of the phone - its not the greatest.

The numbers and letters read:

02 10183A/2 49 >VMQ<

I googled these numbers but I think I need a better description of the part to get any result.

Thank you very much!

Sorry

I think you didn't look up the part number I posted and you also did not read details in the link I provided. I did all I could to assist you.

Sorry, you are right. I love forums, especially this one. When someone implies that I did not use the search function, which is a common thing to state, I typically find it unhelpful.

In my case, the search function was not working for me, as the number on the gasket wasn't helping here or on Google. I appreciate your response, the number you included was exactly what I needed. It turned out to be excellent advice/help. Sorry for my confusion.

Thank you very much, I appreciate it.!!!

Most people don't know how to search properly, on the forums or on google. I don't blame them. I didn't figure it out over night either. But chances are pretty high that someone else had the same issue that you are having and it has been posted and documented. This is why I love car forums. I hope you will fix your oil leak. I had the same issue, I know how it is.

Did you get to the bottom of this?

I started to notice a burning oil smell and black soot on the exhaust pipes, took the car to a very expensive well known diesel engine specialists in Swansea, UK. They 'briefly' looked and said straight away oil cooler seals and pointed to a damp area. I felt they looked too quickly and were making assumptions so investigated myself and the dampness behind the diesel filter that they saw was in fact from what I think is the maf sensor rubber as you show too. The sensor had totally fallen out and the rubber seated at an angle. Seems an awful design because there's no clip - seems only to be held in place by friction?

I think it's normal for an oil type moisture in these systems as a result of recycled air from the EGR valve?

I've cleaned the rubber (which in my case is a little perished) and both sides of where it goes, I should probably replace the seal. I've emailed the numbers to a Mercedes garage, I'll update when they reply.

Cheers
Louis
The good news is the burning oil smell is gone and the exhaust is cleaner.

Just a quick update for anyone searching and finding this in the future. I have been down to the local Mercedes garage who had this in stock for about £4.

Part MA6420940580 called "4D4H4 Seal F Clean" - Part 30 on the diagram.
