Are you talking about the intake air flap arm? Buy a aftermarket metal one on line and do it yourself. it looks a bit overwhelming but its a fairly simple task. It does require the intake to be removed.

Really disappointed in myself for giving in to the dealership on this one, but it's water under the bridge. Better than my neighbor - super nice guy, but not the brightest bulb in the tree - who traded in his Lexus because it needed brake pads and a radiator.

Doing it all over again, I would totally do some easy fix like suggested.

Also, why not just jam it in the open position? What's wrong with that?

Ita not causing any issues and is in the open position but id like to have to low end torque back anf what not. I was thinking if just buying a low mileage intake off ebay and replacing the part with a metal one and calling good as i have 170k miles on mine already and dont want plastic getting into the combustion chamber

I'm no super expert but everything I've seen points to the plastic that breaks is outside the intake, not inside.

Look into it. There are kits all over the place.

If you're concerned about the downtime, buy a used intake and two kits; then swap, fix the one you pull off, and sell that on Ebay.

I'm doubtful, but if you're really worried about it, you should just get a whole new manifold.

I haven't heard of the actual swirl flaps breaking apart but I cant say that they wont either. They good thing is that they are plastic and they would be spit right out into the exhaust. You can buy a lower mileage one but who is to say that that one wont break either? But which ever makes you more comfortable. What I do suggest is that which ever one you buy, make sure that if the ball joints have screws, I recommend unscrewing them and putting some lock tight on them. This way, they will not back out and you will not have to figure out how to screw them back in. These arms are not readily accessible.
