Having recently purchased a 2009 GL320 as a second vehicle for my wife when the weather is too bad for her C63AMG, I haven't had the time to fully read the manual. She told me after a business trip that her GL wouldn't unlock and she thought it was the Key FOB. I tried opening the vehicle with my FOB and had no problems until I pressed the "start button" and heard the dreaded Click, click, click. Dead battery! I opened the hood and put a jump starter on the red post and ground. 5 minutes on BOOST, tried to start the motor and it barely turned over. MISTAKE ONE! DON'T USE BOOST! The manual suggests only vehicle to vehicle jump starting. I left the trickle charger on the battery for 4 hours and then disconnected the charger and the engine started right up!
BUT, now there was NO SOUND from the stereo or Navigation system. I tried the basic resets, but no avail.
Finally, I pulled out the fuse box\fuse location paperwork from the aux storage area (typically where the spare tire is located). I checked all the fuses related to the stereo and amplifier and after pulling out all fuses, they were all "good".
I retested the system to find that something had been "reset" by pulling the fuses and now everything works as normal!
