UPDATE - YES or NO, that's the question - Buying with high mileage.
Hello guys, I'm new here, planning on buying a GL 350 Diesel 2010 with 160.000 miles on it.
The price is really low, u$s10k, very well maintained and condition, actual owner is a mechanic itself, he did all the maintenance regularly, new air suspension and compressor last year. New transmission fluid, - differential oil, filters, rotors and pads, etc.
The high millage is travelling back and forth from Canada to the States.
I understand repairs on this car are not cheap, but I always try to DIY and find parts online, never dealer.
Suggestions?
Run away or pull the trigger and play russian roulette?
Thanks in advance.

Don't know where you are located or if you have owned any other Mercedes products but finding correct parts anywhere ELSE but a dealer may be very difficult. Only a dealer will be able to match your VIN to the exact part number required for your car.
For instance, can you find a source for the rubber suspension bushings the front end of the 350 will soon require? Are you sure your non dealer source has EXACTLY what you will need?

There is zero issue with a high mileage x164 with the om642 motor. The truck will eventually throw the adblue heater/ pump and would need to be replaced if it hasn't done it already. It might or might not need oil cooler seals. Pass side cv joint, suspension bushings, airmatic struts/ bags compressor are also standard fare. That's about it. If you are going to diy a benz get a xentry setup.
The question is why so cheap. At 160k that truck even an 09 is worth more.

I live in Canada, I will pay, if I buy it, CAN $14k and the blue book value is CAN $30k. I was suspicious like you with the price. Maybe is a good idea to go to a MB dealer to do a pre buy inspection? Do you have any idea how much they could charge?

Even if you buy one with low miles there's still a risk with the know issues on this vehicle ... e.g. the oil cooler seals - Transfer Case Input/Output Seals - Timing Chain Stretch - the air suspension etc .. I'm leaving emissions parts alone (NOx sensors/ Adblue heater/ SCR injectors etc)
bottom line be ready to get your hands dirty

2001 SLK 230, 2007 GL 450
FWIW I have a 2007 GL450. Bought it with 100k on it, now has 203K. First week I had it the airmatic pump and relay went out, replacement relay defective resulted in a no-start situation. After that trouble free other than routine maintenance. In the last two months however, after clearing 200k, I've had to replace the radiator and the fuel pump. Fuel pump left us stranded/towed home and while pretty good with a wrench, not sure I'd tackle the fuel pump again. I learned some new words that day.
When I knocked out the radiator, did the hoses too along with the power steering reservoir as it had a minor leak and it was cheap and easy to do with the radiator and fan out of the way.
Overall though for the miles it has held up quite well. Interior and exterior still look like new. Still drives like a dream.
