2008 GL 450. WE'VE HAD ISSUES W/ SUSPENSION.
STARTED 2 YEARS AGO. DEALER REPLACED SHOCKS IN BACK. LAST YEAR, I REPLACED STRUTS IN FRONT. MALFUNCTION LIGHT CONTINUES TO GO ON AND OFF..MAINLY STAYS ON. THE CAR ALWAYS SEEMS TO BOUNCE OVER ROAD. MAYBE COMPRESSOR RESERVOIR HAS CRACK ?? PISTON RING WORN OUT ?? I HAVE A MECHANIC THAT HAS DONE WORK ON BOTH MY CARS. I THINK I TRUST HIM. MIGHT BE TIME TO GO BACK TO THE DEALER AND CHECK SYSTEM WITH ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TESTER. ANY OTHER HELP ?>?>?

you need someone with a star diagnostic tool to check system for errors
there is also an air block that can leak causing compressor to run a lot and overheat
you need to check for leaks with soapy water and stop them if any

thank u for responding back. i just made an appt w/ dealer for diagnostic test. $150 for next week. no more guessing i hope. im also going to the same dealer tonight after work and going to replace the relay. $25 part...

ok guys here we go.. i opened the wheel well last night on my 2008 gl450. to expose the air compressor. when i started the truck the compressor kicked in. i decided to press the button inside that raises the truck. as its blinking and to raise..nothing happens. compressor still on...i squeezed the hose from compressor and its not putting any air out.. and a minute later the display showed compressor cooling down. arnott told me you shouldnt be able to sqeeze it if its on. it should be hard as a rock...sounds like compressor.. i also drove to a benz dealer to ask about replacing the relay..nothing wrong with the relay. the truck is at its lowest right now. doesnt raise at all. i am getting diagnostic test next thursday..$150 prob worth it. im told they replace old parts with new ones during the test to check off which parts are good/bad. wish me luck

Replace the valve solenoid at the same time (its right next to the compressor. Also the filter to the air compressor should be replaced (it is just inside the passenger side wheel well cover).

SO I WENT BACK TO CHECK WORK DONE..ON SUSPENSION
i bought the 2008 gl450 w/ 16k miles on it in august 2009. when we hit 61,116 we had problems with suspension. april 2014 it went back to mercedes of morristown service. and the fun started. GOODWILL OFFERED BY DEALER !! i was told they would do the work for free..i didnt realize how many people had problems with the suspension....esp GL MODELS. airmatic light goes on in april. turns out the r/r air bag leaking..level sensor wire was cut...found broken wiring at r/r level sensor..repaired all wires...replaced r/r air bag...replace wire harness r/r. now in may...may 29th it goes back to dealer. the car lowers o/n. left and right rear level sensor link rod replaced.they found multiple issues with car. both rear level sensor arms completely seized. found front left strut leaking.found left rear air bag spring leaking..im just giving you guys the highlights. I FUKKN HATE THIS TRUCK..now a diagnostic should find out the next wave of problems..
