Gl450 Install new Fuel Pump

My GL450 stalled at a stoplight and got it the dealer - the dealer said it was the CPS (crank position sensor). I got it done but then it was the fule pump and then I have heard it was both the pump and the sending unit and the total cost for it was $2300. I have seen people from here say that, that was not ti and it can be more after that - so I got the vesicle home to diagnose it myself.

Here are the videos of where I got so far -- still need the ring nut tool to remove the FP.

Search fuel pump location thread on MBWorld. I did a short little write up on changing the pump and sending unit. You will find that I used the lisle 63000 fuel pump tool that cost $23.00 verses the benz fuel pump tool that is about $170.00. I tried to paste the link on here but it wont allow me to link the thread

Btw, for removing the round cover, you can use a heat gun to make it a bit easier.

I was thinking of that but since it is fuel related and danger of explosion - i went against it - all it would take is some fumes to trigger it.

Few questions :
How long to wait after gluing the cap on?
Did you empty the fuel tank?
I was not planning on replacing the sending unit - will it still work?
Did you purchase new ring nut and rubber seal ring (green) separately - or did it come with the new filter pump?

thank you

if there is fumes escaping the fuel tank, there is a problem. The fuel tank is air air tight at the pump and sending units.

I don't understand the first question. How long after what?

No. left the fuel tank full. If you look at the pictures, you can see it is almost all the way to the top. There is more vapors in the tank when it is empty. It is the vapors that is dangerous.

It is recommended that both the pump and sending unit be changed as a unit but that will be your call.

I cant remember if a new ring nut came with them or not. But I can tell you that I did not buy new ones.

The question was about the sealant drying time - but that varies based on sealant used - so ignore it.

How to remove this clip?

Clip looks too tight - tried pressing it with pliers but it was slipping
Need to remove this hose so I can put in the new pump.

I have removed clips like that. You can cut it if you like. But, if you put an item right in between the gap, like a screwdriver, you can spread it so it opens up.
