MB GL450 Best snow tires

Can you get Blizzaks in your size? It's OK to go skinnier, FYI. I'm not sure how much skinnier you can go with whatever rims you have - so check on that. But skinnier is better when it comes to snow tires.

Its a heavy car unless you're going in the mountains all seasons have been fine for me in chicago winter ... keep in mind our other car is a RWD and I religiously put on winters on that one but dont think its needed for this beast, i might be wrong

Perhaps I can shed some light.
We have a 2010 GL 450 which runs a dedicated winter set in season.
Its running on its own set of the oem 19" wheels with Bridgestone Blizzaks DMV-2 in size 255/55R19.
This is the alternate size recommended by TireRack as the Winter Tire size provided by MBUSA in your owners manual....is impossible to find.
Tire Rack is amazing and its quite easy to find a light used OEM set of rims in this size.
Just remember TPMS sensors, but theyre not impossible to find either. I got my oem set of 4 for 80 I think. Theyre cheap because theyre used by all brands, smart from a-g classes probably. Also the tpms service kit if I remember correctly is a dill 9066k....
Love the winter set, great comfort and handling. Gets squishy in temps over 60F, but theyre winter tires so....yeah.
Width is not an issue, they handle great and I drive quickly. I have felt extremely confident and safe in all conditions with these tires; and performance.
Well trips to VT regularly seem 100mph+ speeds and the tires are very happy!
Hope it helps!
Cheers

I've been running Blizzaks on 18" rims the last three winters. The GL is unstoppable with these on. I always buy smaller rims for snow tires to give me extra sidewall to deal with spring potholes here in PA.

2) Yes, that statement is loaded with sarcasm!

3) On a side note... Don't you just love it when someone posts a question, then multiple people take time out of their life to answer the question, then the original poster never even posts back to follow up or even just to say thanks? (see my second statement in this post)

I have been using the Hakkapelitta R2's, and they have been great! We've had some deep snow and icy conditions here and they have worked flawlessly. All the hoopla about the Nokia winter tires seems true. I have a North facing, long switch-backing driveway that over the years has required 4wd (not awd) to get up in tough conditions. My GL450 with these tires on it gets up with no slippage at all. They wear well, and I've noticed no decrease in mileage. Maybe a tad more noise, but not much.

I have a set of Nokian Hakka R2 snow tires, 265/60-18, mounted on OE GL 18" wheels. New last year, tires and TPMS sensors anyway. Just finally getting around to sell them as we sold our 2012 GL350 this summer. Planning to take some pics later today. Tread depth is about 9/32".
These are the best snow tires. Very happy with them last winter. If anyone's interested let me know. I'm located in Minnesota.
