Takes several revolutions before starting
I have a 2009 GL450.
I would say about once a week this scenario happens.
When I push the START button it will turn over about 8 to 10 times before starting up. It usually only takes 1-2 revolutions. It has happened when first starting up in the morning but it happens most of the time after making multiple short runs for the day. It has also happened on warm days and cold days. No CEL or performance issues. Other than that it starts and runs excellent.
Anyone ever experience this.

I think I figured it out. It appears to be user error.
I will monitor it over the next several days but it appears to happen in either of these two scenarios:
- I'm not fully pressing the brake pedal down all the way when pushing the START.
- and sometimes I begin lifting my foot off the brake pedal after I pushed the START button but before the engine is actually running (that split second seems to matter).

Does letting the fuel pump run for a moment makes it faster to start? I mean turning the ignition to ON position and hearing the humming for a moment. And then pushing the starter button with brake pedal pressed.

It was happening in the morning, after running in the store for a quick moment, in the evening. It didn't really matter what the scenario was.
With that said, ever since I started making a point to firm apply the brake while starting the car it hasn't happened since (knock on wood).

BUT... If one takes his foot off the pedal (to the point the computer doesn't register the pedal being pushed) before the engine actually starts, doesn't that mean the engine WILL not start and actually stop cranking? That's the way it is in my car, anyways. If I take my foot off the pedal after the engine begins to crank (but engine hasn't started, yet), the engine will immediately stop cranking.

This still sounds strange. It just doesn't make logical sense. If true, then there would be two "positions" to pressing the brake pedal. The first position allows the engine to crank (only) and not until you get to the second position are the fuel injectors allowed to fire. Just doesn't make sense, you know?
