Thanks Jason B
I am not questioning or debating Tex v Leather, I want to know if the actual foam or other material under the seat covering is different in any way. Tex, leather, Designo, is the foam or other material used to make the seat different?
Thanks
Thanks

I was wondering how you can tell the difference... I am looking to buy a used 2007 GL450 in the next couple days and the guy swears that the seats are real leather... but they look just like/verysimilar to my old 2012 GL350 which had MBtex... had to sell that one cause my girls were puking all the time... was later told that some kids har trouble due to the off gassing... *♂️

?? Yes you can, but no one will know unless they are comparing two cars. I have an s and a GL, and GL is tex. My point is, you might know, but no one that gets in is going to know.

Interesting comment on the off gassing. I have a (real) wool seat cover - it's a "half" version - just covers the center, not the "bolsters" on the sides of the bottom or backrest. It is brown in color, but has changed to a brownish-green color over a few months. I returned it and they sent me a new one, stating they have ever only heard of this happening once or twice before and it was in Mercedes cars. I just sent the replacement back for a third try. Trying a different color this time. And, NO, the greenish discoloring is NOT just in the shape of my butt - it's a very even discoloring. I have MBTex...

Leather should probably come to an end in the automotive marketplace. Synthetics are much more durable and can have the same look and feel. I think MBtex wears better than leather. I own Mercedes-Benzes with both.

Now can't wait until the warm weather so this doesn't happen anymore:

For the basic basic leather seats, the underpinnings are identical. When you get to the “ergonomic” options or if you’re lucky and find one with cooled seats, they are different.
there are lots of used car dealers and ads mistakenly calling mbtex leather so beware. Mbtex is very popular and very common—do a vin check to verify.
mine is mbtex and just for fun I checked the differences in the parts system recently. A single leather seat bottom, that is not both bottom and back, is over $800 from dealer. On Mercedes, seat heating is built into the upholstery.
