2007 GL450 Mercedes
Transmission would not shift

My car is 2007 GL450 Mercedes; sometimes the transmission will not shift and there is some humming noise I think from the transmission. Please do you know what the problem is?

Have you noticed any transmission fluid leaks from under the car? Try topping up transmission fluid..

You’ll need a laser thermometer to get the temp up to 42 degrees centigrade then unscrew the plug and pump in fluid until it starts to drain out the hole...

I had the same issue. There is some sort of actuator in the transmission that goes bad. I was told that it is a known issue and replacement is a redesigned part. Had mine done at the dealer (under warranty) at about 60K miles - I purchased the 100k extended warranty, so no cost to me & I can't tell you what the cost really is... That repair was 155,000 miles ago. The repair requires removal.of the transmission pan, so it includes a transmission fluid service - which is a good thing. Hope that helps.

Maybe is the ISM (Intelligent Servo Module), but before replacing it, is important to have the car scanned preferably with Star Diagnosis. Last year I had to replace and reprogram the ISM module of my GL500 of the same year of your car when it had approximately 50K miles.

Most likely the valvebody or turbine speed sensor but have it scanned to make sure. Could be a few things.
