wierd abs/esp situation
Hi folks, I have a problem with my 07 x164 trying to diagnose this ,I did a 4 wheel brake job ( all new pads and rotors , all calipers checked ok, never touched any abs parts). As soon as I took it out for a test drive a noticed a strong steering pull to the left and as I tried to accelerate it sounded like the abs was coming on and had the yellow flashing light come in the dash, it would go out as soon as I let off on the gas but as the roads are slushy, normal braking causes the left front abs to come on if the road if slippery. I installed my carsoft and read the codes and I'm getting a bad/lost computor connection (sorry I lost the paper I had the written on and have to wait to get in the shop)
Any ideas as to why I have this problem after a regular brake job??

you either forgot to attach a connector in there or you pushed rust up the sensor hole or you pushed dirty fluid up the abs unit when you pushed the caliper pistons to make room for the new pads holly run-on sentence

Thanks for the reply. Didn't disconnect any cables but as I had to hammer off the rotors (northen salt and rust) I'll check for crap on the abs sensors and tone wheels. I'll get back with report.

Hi, I tried to post a reply but somehow I goofed. Anyway the Icarsoft shows the r/f abs sensor is bad, disconnected it and the symptoms changed for another bunch:-) should have new one on Thursday. I still have the pull to the left, hope it goes away with new part,I have tried to reset steering.

A failed wheel speed sensor is not going to cause a hard pull - it will only cause you to lose the ABS function. In other words, putting a new wheel speed sensor in there is not going to fix the situation. It seems like you have more of a mechanical issue than electrical - incorrect brake job, rotor/pads not installed correctly, etc. Along the lines of what Alx mentioned, it would probably be a really good idea to flush the brake lines out completely and re-bleed. I'd also think (Alx, please correct me if I'm wrong), but if the "hard pull" is a smooth pull (no pulsating in the brake pedal), then there's probably nothing wrong with the tone ring... wouldn't the brake pedal pulse if the ABS system was engaging? Meaning, no pulsating = no issues with ABS system (at least the sensor part of the system).

I agree that it’s not abs but after driving for 10 miles neither rotor was warmer than the other. It seems like it may be the power steering.Turning the wheels from lock to lock at the wheels put something in the P/S out of spec.?

You don't have to "bump" after just a day... it makes you seem like an impatient millennial that thinks they deserve an answer right away
I can't answer anything about the PS, other than that seems odd?
Maybe go do a couple hard stops and feel the discs again, but also feel the REAR discs. This time, feel for a disc that is noticeably colder than the rest. If one disc was colder... well, I'm sure you get where I'm going with this, but that could also cause the car to pull... just to the opposite side.

Definitely gonna be either your wheel speed sensor or ABS sensor... When mine went bad ABS kept locking the wheels and after while it went into limp mode in the middle of 70mph+ San Antonio traffic in the middle lane... Best bet now is to put the car in Dyno mode as it turns ESP and ABS functions off and the car is 100% drivable. Then get that stinkin' sensor fixed haha.

Hi,yes abs sensor fixed a lot of problems such as the warning lights. But the cause of that steering pull turned out to be a blown r/r airbag , lnstalled a new pair of Arnott,s and all is good.

Was the rear of the vehicle squatting down, like you would expect with a blown bag? I guess it was dragging on the rotor or the wheel?
