What are the general symptoms of worn out rear shocks?

'07 GL320CDI, '10 CL550
Oil all over them. Something in the 70k miles range is usual life, I think (although it required 10 years to reach this with the 2 I work with).

they get wet

observe carefully with a flashlight. the leak might not be readily visible or significant.

I notice that my GL was very bumpy. When you turn on uneven pavement the rear just feel like it is jumping around and unstable. Change rear shocks.. World of difference. smooth and stable again.
