Drivers Door wiondow trim replacement

I need to replace the lower window trim.
Yes, this is the part that has the pealing problem, but my problem is the rubber strip came off.

I can find the part on-line, but have not found the instructions for replacing it.

Anyone have them?

I think the trim is just a friction fit, right? Meaning, just pull it up and off the door edge - gently, of course, so you don't bend it.

Thanks,

Would love to get that confirmed before I decide to pull too hard.

As for bending it, since I am replacing it, that is of little concern.

If it does just pull off, I might try fixing it since I have the rubber strip and it does not appear to be torn.

Of course that does mean I have to pull it off without bending it!

One of mine keeps rising/popping up all by itself... lending to the theory that it's just a friction fit. One of these days I'll take it off and crimp it a little tighter. I'd be REALLY surprised if it was held on some other way. I've replaced these things on other cars and they have always been friction fit. A stiff, plastic putty knife or trim removal tool should help get things going. Just do it - more action, less thinking!

But too much thinking often prevents action from EVER happening Thinking is good - overthinking... not so much.

You're not going to damage anything by going slow. But as I mentioned, I really can't imagine this being anything BUT friction fit.

Last time I made that assumption I cracked a dash trim piece on my Touareg. LOL! It really felt like just one more clip, but nope! It was a retaining pin on another piece.

I found an old thread that also said it friction fit, so I will give it a try. Maybe I can reinsert the rubber strip once I get it off and save buying another one for $55.

Never been a fan of those clips - but not sure there's really a better way to do it, either.

Replacing just the rubber is exactly what I've done a few other cars - just never on this Merc.

OK, so here is the definitive answer.

It is a friction fit.

There is an extra clip near the rear edge.

You are best prying form inside with the window down, as prying from the outside seems to want to bend the piece.

The rubber is held in a grove between the outer trim and piece of plastic on the inside, that seems to be factory glued or some how bonded to the metal backing of the trim piece.

I wasn't sure I could get the inner plastic to reattached to the metal, so along with superglue where it was attached, I also but a few dabs in both the outer and inner groves holding the rubber in.

All looks good (except for a few little places superglue (and/or fingerprints) are showing, and the rubber is held in tightly.

$0.99 of super glue and about an hour, vs. $55 to and MB Parts discounter!
