Coolant Change

I'm getting ready to change the coolant in my GL. The service manual talks about draining left and right crank case in addition to radiator. For anyone that has done this can you provide any tips? How much coolant did you need to complete the job after draining crank and radiator? How did you refill the coolant and bleed the system of air? Manual talks about using vacuum pump to refill. On my other cars I just refill through reservoir/radiator and upper radiator hose.

I also need to replace my lower radiator hose. Anyone knows how to detach the end that attaches to the engine (the left side in the picture below)? It looks like some type of quick-connect/twist-lock connection.
