Top Rated Battery Replacement.
I am replacing the battery for my wife’s 2012 GL350! What is the best replacement battery brand overall and what is the designation for this battery? (AGM Battery for 2012 Mercedes Benz GL350 V6 3.0L 850CCA)???
Should I change the auxiliary battery at the same time as well?
I was quoted $449.00 for a Interstate AGM 850CCA battery installed with a 3 year no cost replacement warranty.. Is this a satisfactory battery for my vehicle?
Thanks

Interstate is a fine choice. This is the one I'm going with in the very near future -- made by Deka (in the USA, too) and is also a top rated battery: https://www.batteriesplus.com/produc...iesel/sli49agm I don't know where the AGM Interstate is made - the Interstate Megatron ("regular" style wet cell) that's currently in my car says Made in Mexico on it.

Does Batteriesplus install for freeInterstate gives two applications.. DSL or DSL with AGM. I’m not sure what the AGM designates. Any ideas?

The AGM is just the battery type, it's made differently than the traditional wet cell batteries and holds up better to high stress use, they don't spill, vibration isn't an issue, and a few other things. These cars, I wouldn't put anything but an AGM in, and I also went with the Duracell Ultra Platinum when I replaced mine earlier this year. Have had zero issues, and I want to say my price was somewhere in the $200-ish dollar range from the parts store, installed it myself in the driveway.

$400+ for battery is on the very high side. My 2010 GL450 is still on the original MB battery and at my last check few months ago it was within 85% of rated capacity. I don't know what MB battery costs (I think around $200) but if it's cheaper consider it. When I got my GL used one of the maintenance items I wanted to change as a precaution was the battery given the 2010 manufacturing code on the battery. I looked at a Bosch (which I put in all my cars) for $200 before I realized my battery still has some juice left.

Thanks.. I think I’ll have Mercedes check my battery for charge at the next service. I just figured after 7 years it was time to change it before it failed on me while on the road. I’ve noticed I lose my Sirius FM channels everyday and have to reset them so I thought the battery may be losing its charge after all these years. I was going to trickle charge the battery but I know better than to play with fire.

Not sure what DSL is - what does the info say? You can use a regular wet cell battery, but as mentioned, the AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) should last longer given it's better at "cycling" than a regular battery. When the car is turned off, some things still draw power. The AGM is better able to deal with this and charge back up better once the engine is started. In the marine industry we often have a dedicated starting battery (lot's of "oomph" in a short period time to start the engine) and then a dedicated "house" battery, known as a "deep cycle" battery (not quite as much initial oomph, but can supply power for a longer period of time and is designed to take many, deep discharges and then charge ups). The AGM is sort of a combo of the two.
Interstate and Deka are both excellent companies - as long you get the right specs, you're good.
A couple things can affect battery life - first, temperature. Cold zaps power - sometimes quite significantly. So, in a warmer climate, the battery could very well last longer. But getting too hot isn't good, either.
Another thing is that you have a diesel - that tires out a battery MUCH faster than a gasser given it's takes a lot more power to spin a diesel over. It's reasonable that a the same battery used in a 450/550 would last longer than one in a 320/350. In my opinion, this vehicle (320/350) should really have two batteries.
Not sure if Batteries Plus installs - I was just planning on doing it myself. It's not that hard - super easy if you take the front seat out, first (maybe adds 5 minutes to the job).
If you're losing your presets, and the battery was the problem, I would imagine you wouldn't be able to even start the car.

Thanks DennisG01 for the information. So how difficult is it to remove the front seat and what steps do I follow to remove the front seat and what tools do I need to use?

There's only four bolts holding it down. You can see those easily enough. There are some electrical things under there - it's been a while since I did it so I can't give you a step by step on where exactly everything is that has to be unclipped - but it's easy enough to figure out as you go. Raise the seat all the way so you can see under there better.
One tip... make sure the seatback is FULLY up - it makes it easier to pivot the seat out of the vehicle 180* and set it on the ground. The seat belt can stay attached.

I rather think “top rated” refers to the battery available from Mercedes ...

But... who makes the battery for MB? Do you know what the specs of that battery are?
How much does it cost to ship that battery? On the other hand, if that $257 is the true retail cost at an MB dealership, that's not bad, at all.

Some where buried in the W166 threads a poster identified the exact MB battery (same mfg line) but sold to Autozone (IIRC). I bought that version and put it in my '13 ML350BT.
After which my tail gate would not open automatically. I had the car at my local Indy shop to do the trans service. They said when the battery is changed you have to do some resetting of modules. It was $50 and my tailgate was back to normal.

I just replaced the battery in my 2008 GL450 it was a AGM battery and cost $211.00 The Batteries plus website had a online deal 20% off that net the same price but when I tried to purchase it wouldn't work, a problem with their website so I went to Autozone and got it from them and the same price without a gimmick fake 20% off and without logging in and giving all my personal data. All you do is move the seat all the way forward, open the battery area, remove the air duct gizmo, then move the seat all the way back to tuck the carpet forward, then put the seat all the way forward again and remove the battery (negative terminal off first, then positive, lift it out, drop in the new one (gently and watch your fingers!!!!!) I have a bandage on my hand still, three or four days later... Connect positive terminal First, then negative, and connect that little acid fumes tube, close everything up and Voila! Done. There was a video i found showing it really is pretty easy just watch your fingers lowering the new battery in there! No reason to not do it yourself then your cost is only a little over $200. I have two other Mercedes that I got Duracell Ultra Premium AGM batteries for and those are fine, and I think this new one from Autozone will be fine as well. It is a Duralast Platinum AGM (absorbed glass mat) Group 49, size H8 battery. Three year warranty. The one I replaced was a Superstart and lasted only two years. They might be good batteries as well, maybe the previous owner drained and recharged it thereby killing it. I killed it once when the rear hatch shut automatically and didn't latch shut all the way leaving interior lites on. Came out to find the battery dead. Nowadays when I shut the rear hatch I watch it and make sure it shuts all the way! I didn't need to reset anything at all after having the battery disconnected for about an hour.

These batteries are so heavy I would not want one shipped to me, I'd rather pick it up in a local store, some Wal Marts have them, it's easy enough to pick it up. If a dealership would supply one INSTALLED for $257 I would say you can't go wrong with that! It's time for me to change the bandage on my left hand again. LoL

Not sure if you already purchased one but you can get an AGM from advance auto for 200 bucks. If you use coupon code m91 it will save you another 30 dollars.
I have used their AGMs in all my cars I including my clk550 with no issues.
Hope this helps and saves you some cash.
