GL550 New to me maintenance, help?

Hello,

Im planning on moving from my W164 ML 350 bluetec to a GL550. Are there anything I should watch out for on the 2011-2012 model year? Ill bring my scanner to look out for the Air suspension, which I assume will cost me, but anyone know how often they require maintenance? Anything on the engines I should look to have had done?

Those years were the end of the X164 run. Similar to your W164 ML from a body and chassis point of view. Check rear taillamp gaskets for water intrusion. Also carefully inspect the air suspension. The engines seem relatively robust. Check the engine air inlet ducts. Not sure if the M273 has fabric ducts like the M278 and M157, these can split/tear.

the overall car and engines are pretty solid at this vintage. Do check the intake tumble flap actuator arm or any codes related to it. If your scanner can emulate an MB Star short test, do that. If it has the compression check function that MB Star has, that’ll tell you most what you’ll ever need to know about
that particular engine.

wrt suspension/airmatic components 550s usually had ADS so replacement struts (if leaking) are $5-600 a corner. air springs are the same throughout the x164 run and fairly cheap insurance against a burned out compressor three weeks from now.

Thanks! Ill check for general dampness and past damage. As well as prior airmatic repair. This car seems way less a money pit than a bluetec.
