Aerated engine oil question

Hi all - if I had introduced a squirt of air into the engine oil while siphoning off some overfill through the dipstick, should I do a complete oil change? I worry about engine oil aeration. The car is a 2007 GL320 / OM642.940... #askingforafriend

ask others but I’d just let it sit for a bit to let any air settle. A few hours at most id think

A squirt of air? How and why did that happen? I don’t see any issue. Oil is not a brim-full fluid in the engine (unlike coolant and brake fluid), in fact oil is in contact with air nearly at all times.

You will need an MB Star to measure the ratio of air to oil. If out of the norm, you will need a full system flush to remove the air from the crankcase and oil pan. While you are having the MB dealership run the scan, please have them check your blinker fluid since low blinker fluid can wreck havoc on your installer valves. If the installer valves are dead, please have them use the unobtanium ones to ensure longevity. Lastly, make sure they use 30 weight ball bearings since those seem to last the longest.

Now just one GL450 with EORP.
Install a fetzer valve on the oil filter housing, you’ll never have that problem again.

in fact, you do not have a problem.

Thanks, always forget about the fetzer valve.

lol... you cant turn oil into bubbly. if you know the churning that takes place in the oil pan during normal operation you would not care about some air in the oil...

carry on

Admit it, you laughed. Thank goodness there was no splash of rain water that got into the windshield washer fluid. Would have totaled the car.

Remember the guy that was upset about his air suspension. I told him the car was a total loss but I'd tow it away for him because I'm such a nice guy.

The next noob that posts a thread titled AIR SPRINGS PLEASE HELP, or better, PLEASE HELP, or the timeless HELP!!!!!!! we should refer them to this post.

Or refer them to an exorcist.

At first I thought this thread was referring to a real problem: Overfilling with oil, if it is high enough to reach the spinning crankshaft, is bad precisely because it aerates the oil.

Overfilling with oil results in a low oil pressure fault. Wild, huh?

You would be correct if we were talking about the GL450. The OM642 uses a muffler sprocket. Some say it is stronger but I feel it is used to handle the hotter exhaust from the turbo diesel.
