HELP GL350d tailgate problem.

Hi,
I have a problem with my fathers GL350d 2007. I didn't found any threads with such problem, so the problem is with tailgate, tailgate opens every time he opens any door, doesn't matter which door. As you open any door and even if I open hood the tailgate opens and start lifting up.
Do anyone have some ideas, what it can be or what to look before I go to a dealer? I think this problem will not be shown on diagnostics at a dealer. Maybe someone had this kind of a problem here and can help.

Weird problem to have.

the fob, drivers door switch and the gate handle itself are the only three points where you can trigger this action.

does the problem occur with a different key fob? Is it keyless go?

eliminate the fob at least. If there’s a stuck tailgate button on it it could be that opening a door wakes up the fob receiver and processes the tailgate open signal. You just have to figure out where that signal is coming from by process of elimination.

Sounds like a stuck button somewhere, either on the key fob, or one of the control buttons (driver's door button, tailgate button and latch, key fob). Are you able to open AND close the tailgate with the control buttons?

Check the external latch and make sure that it is functioning properly.

Also, you can try pulling fuse #40 (40 AMP) in the trunk fuse box, for temporary relief.

All the buttons and key operates normally, the tailgate opens and closes fine. I removed inner tailgate button, but this didn't work. I will try disconnecting others and see if some of them will solve the issue.

Thanks for the advices.

Tried another external latch and tried another key still nothing. Will try to disconnect fuse for couple minutes and drivers door panel button.

I feel like you might have to resort to using an MB specific/oriented code scanner. A generic scanner won't help here, I don't think. I use iCarSoft MBII. There are other scanners as well. The rear tailgate has its own section. If there are any codes stored (with status "current and stored" or "stored") record them and then clear them. Also, do the same for Keyless Go.

Try opening the doors again and see if the tailgate will also open. If all works as desired/designed afterwards, fantastic. If not, go back in both sections and see if you have any codes captured again. You may or may not see codes previously stored there. If any return, you can investigate those and hopefully that will point you in a good direction.

Yes - that would also do it, but for OP may be a dealer only option.

If would show up in the body interrogation as "(module or switch name) signal implausible".
I get that every now and then from my driver's seat adjustment switch, as it tends to stick sometimes.
Then it triggers a stored fault for it, telling me what I already know.
The switch has a layer of dried frappucino; courtesy of the prior owner, all over it.

I hate when I have to deal with liquid spills with cream or sugar in them.

Im sure you've already thought about this, if it's intermittent, you might be able to soak the switch in contact cleaner and maybe that would fix it. It may require some disassembly to get to the boards/connector pins, which would help with the cleaning.

OP-

while you are at it go look for water in the trunk under the spare tire or at the bottom of the battery compartment under the drivers seat. Water intrusion can sometimes cause some very weird problems due to shorts and corrosion on module terminals.
hopefully it’s just one of the four (not three) switches.

Still struggling

So I have tried the fuse and all the buttons. Disconnected locks and cleaned them. Tried using another key for a day, but still. Opened everything in the trunk, looked for water and moisture anywhere. Everything was good and dry. Even tried disconnecting and reconnecting rear SAM for couple of minutes. Still nothing. Discovered that if I put the alarm system on, put the key far away and open the door from inside ( window was down and reached inside) the alarm starts, door opens, but tailgate stays closed.
I will try to find some diagnostics, and see what can i find.

You could always try the 'ol standby of disconnecting the battery for about a half hour. Sometimes that works - and at least it's free to try it.

It will be a little strange that I will write here, but this problem can be caused by the batteries inside the alarm siren that are going bad. In may case, the tailgate was refusing to close, I had to press the open/close button for at least 3 times.
When I used the Star diagnosis scanner it pointed out that there was a problem of communication with the rear SAM and the alarm siren, fault 90C7. I have checked the rear SAM, the lines that goes to the siren and as everything looked fine. So I bought a new siren, replace it and since them, everything looks fine again.
I hope this can help you.

Hi everyone, soo the problem is still active. I have tried everything I can think of. Opened the rear SAM, it was a bit oxidation, but cleaned it all and tested everything and was all good. Tried replacing siren, but nothing. Diagnostics showed something with keyles-go. So I tackled the keyles-go entry and the module at right back side panel, everything was good and working. Then I tried replacing tailgate lock but still same thing. I'm kinda out of ideas what to to next. Next step is that I will try another SAM module from crashed car. But I still have no idea, how the signal from opening hood, and each door goes to tailgate and makes it open and raise.

Have you tried disconnecting the individual switches (driver door switch, tailgate switch ) one at a time and testing to see if you still get the same results? Maybe that will help isolate the triggering circuit.

Also, you could try connecting a multi-meter at the fuse and measure for changes in voltage as you run your tests (there should not be a change in voltage unless you purposely trigger the tailgate). If there is a change in voltage, then you likely have a short somewhere.

This might be a malfunctioning sensor for one of the doors or the hood.
Q: Are you able to unlock the car from every door by just touching the handle?
Q: Are you able to lock the car from every door using the black button?

1. Try this (you might need a helper):
1a. Lock yourself in the car with the key away from the car.
1b. Open the hood (alarm should go off).
Q: Does the tailgate open?

Edit: adding steps for each door.
1c. Do the above with each of the four doors while locked inside. This should trigger the alarm as well, every time.
Q: What does the tailgate do for every door open?

2. Try this
2a. Open the tailgate with the outside handle.
2b. While it's raising, pull the tailgate handle again. (The tailgate should stop.)
Q: Does the tailgate stop?
2c. Close the tailgate.
2d. Open the tailgate with the manual release handle from inside the car.
Q: What does the tailgate do? Does it just unlock/unlatch, or does it lift?

This would be a better way to isolate each circuit than my suggestion.
