oil consuption GL350 OM642
I installed a catch can a while back and I'm catching a bit of oil and quite a bit of moisture. Which is good. This is a "new to us" used 2011 GL350 with 180,000KM on it. It is deleted and when it's on half to full throttle I get a decent amount of black smoke. Now I know it could be the tune as well but I've been noticing a decent oil consumption on this truck. My wife hardly drives it and I just added 2L to get it halfway up the dipstick.
Doing a search it appears these trucks stuff from Turbocharger seals failing. Basically, oil is leaking past the seals and getting stucked into the intake etc. The other option I feel is the rings are gone and I'm getting oil burnt up. I did see a video online of someone taking the intercooler piping off and idling the engine. I could see oil pushing out of the turbo. Would this throw a code or put me into limb mode (I just have a basic bluetooth scan tool for resetting)?
I just topped it up and shes heading up north which is about 450KM round trip so ill know more on the consumption next week. Whats everyone else think?
Thanks in advance
